way to many insults and personal attacks

Hard to believe that this could be such an emotional issue.

We suggest that posters pull-back from (or apologize for) the personal attacks or bans will be forth coming.

Wow, this is crazy. When you disagree with someone's opinion, why can't you just say, "I disagree, let me tell you why...".??? PM, you seem to have a strong hatred toward sp's. why are you on this site if you have such a disregard for them? Your words are so belittling and offensive when you mention them. Really, it's quite sad :(

this thread is still going on? There's nothing wrong about complaining a little bit. So many of you guys come on here with 'small complaints' and don't necessarily get jumped all over for it. Should be the same for Jodie. Lighten up people.

Take a break, have a kit kat :)

As I was going to work one day,a film truck was blocking my way with a man basket he was picking up, but he was talking to his swamper. I told him I needed to get out and could please move it. He said '' Yah when I'm ready'' I waited a few min. then asked him if he would like me to move it for him ? H e laughed and said. ''Yah right'' as the basket weighted at least 1000 lbs he wasn't too worried. So when I opened my trunk grabbed my 20 ft 1/4 in. chain and hooked one end to basket and other to my class lll trailer hitch and was going to drag it out of the way, he soon changed his attitude. Good thing because that basket would have had a nice ride.

Accurate Pricing

Perhaps people who are substantially inconvenienced by a film set should tally up the personal cost and submit a bill. The cost would be perhaps time spent driving to find an alternate parking space, loss of enjoyment for a few evenings and other problems charged at say $20 per hour. It would be reasonable for the movie company to pay everyone directly effected a few hundred dollars. The broader community enjoys financial benefit as well but does not experience the direct effects.

We also need to consider the tax and other subsidies that the film companies are given at the taxpayers expense. The government is constantly playing a shell game with money that distorts all the decisions we make. Nothing is simple.

Let not forget that film companies, the businesses that service the film industry and all the film industry employees pay taxes too.

Sorry

Lol you have clearly never worked on set and have no idea how anti green they are, despite how much they try, you must not realize how much of the "worlds" resources they run threw every day they are filming, the amount of gas to move all the trucks, equipment ect to and from different locations, the amount of wood and other materials they use to build each individual set, They dont recycle the shit into new sets, they just use new stuff. Why do you think it takes so much cash to make movies. I am sorry but as hard as they may try to seem "green" The film industry is not.

.
I myself have been involved with the film industry for the last 25 yrs. There have been many growing pains as well as benefits to the local community..
If you feel your being inconvenienced, you may contact the BC Film commission and lodge a complaint. They take these matters quite seriously. Hot Zones are tracked, as well some neighbourhoods must be polled in order to film there..

As for being un-green, I would challenge you on that. Please show me how.. We do in fact re-cycle.. We create a lot of paper and 99% goes to the recyclers. Garbage that is created by are film units is again broken down into plastics, cardboard etc and disposed of accordingly..

87 % of our construction materials are recycled. TV shows use their materials over and over until there is literally nothing left.. Feature films are generally turned over to salvage companies or the film technicians themselves buy back the materials and recycle them into Cottages and home projects. Furniture that is not sold is offerred to needful charity's and clothing is passed on to good-will..
I would suggest that you educate yourself before making such un-informed statements.
Like any Industry there are good companies and flyby nighters. We police ourselves and try to keep the later under control..:) :)

I would like to apologise Jodie if we have inconvenienced you and without your goodwill we would soon find ourselves in the unemployment lineups..:(

Regards

H

This may have been said but I didn't rear through every post.

This is the type of attitude that makes this city LESS than it could be. The film industry brings in HEAPS of money that trickles down to the smallest of businesses. It provides HEAPS of jobs and also gets beautiful Vancouver on film!

We lost Indy, almost lost the fireworks, got the dumbest upgrade of the Lions Gate bridge etc etc because people bitch and complain about the smallest inconveniences.

This city has so much potential to be so much more fun but people complain about every little thing and every little convenience like THEIR life should be the MOST important and that everyone elses is NOT.

Very nicely said hang5507 (the entire post, I mean, not just the part I quoted). This is what a reasonable post looks like. Certain other posters could learn a thing or two from you.

Honestly, no apology necessary. My problem is not really with people involved in the industry. You have a job to do, and you do it in accordance with what the city allows you to do. I just wish the city itself would be more considerate of the impact on residents, for example, making alternate parking available when a street is closed, providing more than two days' notice of areas that will be off limits to residents, posting changes to parking regulations far enough in advance that people who don't visit their cars every day have an opportunity to see the signs before getting towed, letting us know when there is going to be excessive noise, etc.

They often do post way ahead of time.
They also often send out flyers or post notices in elevators or common areas of apartments with contact info for the producers if you have an issue or questions.
But seriously, is parking for a day or two a little further away really an inconvenience. This makes us sound SO spoiled when people have to run/walk for miles just to get fresh water in many third world countries.

If there isn't any other free parking in the area and you have to keep going out to feed a parking meter it could be a pain in the ass. Plus why should the residents of a particular area be out that money. It's like imposing an additional tax only on residents of certain neighbourhoods to subsidize a for profit industry. If the city gave the residents passes to park in local nearby metered spaces for free they would be foregoing that revenue, then at least the costs would be shared by everyone instead of just the residents of a particular neighbourhood.

Because there are not THAT many "free" spaces downtown. I can hardly think of any. Everything I see are either "residential only", "limited free space" and "metered space". Where there has recently been sidewalk construction or just the odd place where there is nothing is rare. Metered spaces are free overnight after 8pm so if it is a parking at night thing then there is no concern. If you are living DT everyone I know either has a residential pass for the street OR has a garage in their building. I don't know ANYONE that finds free spots throughout the day. And we are talking about ONE complaint....get a petition together with 100 people that were inconvenienced and then we'll talk about the issue. But please man, this is just another example of whiney Vancouverites who can't take a small inconvenience for the benefit of MANY people.

My comments about parking are based on Jodie's first post. I don't know the parking situation in her area. The issue doesn't affect me personally, I live on acreage in Maple Ridge, I have tonnes of parking. When they film in my area they either park up the road or rent out my neighbour's 5 acre field.

I can't park my car in the only free (non-metered) area around my apartment. Is the city going to hand over some of that film revenue to me to cover the cost of parking elsewhere? Or perhaps let me park at one of their nearby revenue-generating meters for free?

I think you have hit the nail on the head, people who live downtown are residents.
