What town was this in? I always laugh at some of the stuff small community newspapers will report.A number of years ago there was a playoff hockey pool at work and the guy that won did so by having a number of lucky picks for players. The amount was 200 dollars and as a joke he got his winnings in pennies inside a piece of 6 inch pipe with caps welded on the ends.
The local paper came by and took a picture of him standing with his piece of pipe full of pennies. We supplied him with a pipe cutter to get the pennies out.

Well maybe, if pennies are made from copper, but I don't think they're copper anymore, are they? For that matter, I don't think Canada even makes pennies these days.In all fairness, take them in for scrap. You'll probably get more than $800.![]()
If I am not mistaken, it is illegal to melt down coins and sell the raw metal for cash.In all fairness, take them in for scrap. You'll probably get more than $800.![]()
I meant it as a joke. I don't think pennies are even currency in Canada anymore. Has anyone tried to use them lately? I don't even think banks take them.If I am not mistaken, it is illegal to melt down coins and sell the raw metal for cash.
But I am sure it can be done "under the table".
Also, older pennies are pure copper, but I think the newer ones are copper plated zinc.
