7 things we say when assembling Ikea furniture (and faucets)

This week I have been replacing my vintage sink and faucet. I chose Ikea because they have cool looking sinks.

They don't supply the adapter so it can hook up to our water outlets and the water lines don't actually fit the threads on the faucet the were included with. I have to go back to the store. It is always crowded. I hate crowds!

So, I remembered the sad looking man in the Ikea store staring at the sinks and faucets and telling me about his personal journey of Ikea plumbing, and I thought there must be more of us out there, severely frustrated ones.

I had to add the word 'shitty' to the search engine to find any complaints about Ikea. I thought this was funny:

The problem with IKEA is that they sell junk. Anything that you have to assemble yourself, is made of particleboard and plastic, and is held together by a couple of screws is .... oh ...... not going to be high up there on the quality scale :)

Exactly. I especially wouldn't trust the plumbing products. In Europe they use a different type of pipe thread than they do here, not to mention the Ikea faucets aren't even solid brass. My neighbor bought some Ikea faucets and her plumber refused to install or warranty them. He made her return the faucets and go buy some stuff at a local plumbing showroom.

I thought about returning the faucet and getting a Canadian (read that 'Chinese'?) made when I realized the hole in the sink was the same as our standard, but, my bathroom tub faucets are Canadian (Chinese?) and they are plastic crap covered in shiny stuff any way.

What make are your faucets? If you stick to a few good brands, you should be safe. With faucets, the main thing you want to make sure of, is that service parts are available, especially for your tub/shower. Kohler, Delta, Moen, Grohe are all serviceable products. I've reno'd quite a bit! :)

I really want a faucet and handles I can throw on the ground and stomp on and they will not break. Ok, I know that is silly, but, for some reason turning a handle back and forth seems to put a lot of stress on the metal!

What are the best brands? The ones made of real metal and not plastic. I have to replace a stupid rain shower thing cause it doesn't have a big swivel on it and I want a hand held with the massagey water jet (mmmmmm) for personal cleanliness you know!

Just to get the post back on track....i.e. what do you say when assembling IKEA furniture....I personally enjoy the word FUCK. As in, where are the fucking directions? Why don't they include any fucking instructions? or...my favourite....what the fuck did I buy this for?

I'm with you though Spermie, they create some DELIGHTFUL imagery.

I did an Ikea Kitchen last year. I took one look at their plumbing stuff and chose to do that shopping at Home Depot. At least everything is there and you don't have to wait an hour to talk to a sales rep to buy the correct accessories. In the end, I was pretty happy with the Kitchen.
