Call me crazy (you wouldn't be the first), but why is spending hundreds of millions of dollars the only solution to the Patullo Bridge? The bridge was built when a lot of vehicles were much bigger and had no saftey features. The volume of traffic has increased but the main problems (what else is new) are the insane antics of drivers on the bridge and the high speeds. NOBODY does the speed limit on that bridge. Why not install photo cameras along the bridge (and the tunnel and causeway and other bridges) in both directions, put up big signs announcing the cameras and let the traffic calm down. Majority of problems solved for a few hundred thousand. Also read a proposal to put in speed bumps, but that would be even more dangerous.
