Watching the news there was a story of a company retooling to make medical mask shields. All done by 3D printing. All you need to retool was a new program and the printer prints it off... provided you have the right type of plastic to make the shields out of.
Damm neat...
Funny on u-tube there are lots of videos about CNC machines, that cut out sheets or blocks of metal to make parts. Add a 3D printer in and you can make just about anything.
I was watching one where they made a Formula One car chasis from a CNC machine. First came the styrofoam mold, then the carbon fibre laid down, then baking, then final machining. That's today's technology.
Tomorrow a 3D printer will lay down the mold, then add carbon fibre over the mold and add resin, bake and machine final all on the same worksurface... to make the same thing.
