The problem with a new government is they cannot cut taxes. GST will have to be raised at least to 6%.
Tax cuts no. They will have to do away with tax write offs to bring in more money to pay for Covid and the high spending in social services over Trudeaus time as PM.
(a whole lot of stuff here)
3. its a resource nation that should be a manufacturing nation. 70% of goods should be manufactured in Canada. 100% of its food should be grown in Canada.
Innovation in Canada is non existant. Because every one goes to the USA to get a product made, and sold.
People that live outside of Canada and still retain Canadian citizenship should pay higher taxes on pensionable earnings (these are wealthy people) despite what they claim.
the new canadian government will need to cut deep in some places and spend in certain other areas like military equipment/personal, old age care homes, food equity (100% grown here), diverse economy, cancelling monopolies etc.
To survive we need shelter, food and water. A vibrant economy without polluting. A big mass transit system in all major cities- make large under ground trains (100ft below) etc.
The new government will have to fuck over the rich. They will have to fuck over some land owners. They will have to tax every square inch of land inside Canadian border including reservations.
Rule no. 1...... Life is not fair....
Well, I can agree with a lot of that.
I would add the following:
- Some foods cannot be grown here, like certain veggies, citrus & tropical fruits, but there are work arounds for that, and not all have to come from the US.
- Drop the cross-border shopping limit to $100 per the first 72 hours, and not more than 500 regardless of time. (They should have done it anyway.)
- Slap a similarly hard penalty on those who purchase airline flights in Canada that begin in US airports; no more "fly from Bellingham to Mexico or Seattle to Europe" shit, not without paying a duty.
- Eliminate dual citizenship - Cons might think this basically endorses what they want, but it would include any US citizenships, and that would fuck them hard.
- Also add a feature where if any Canadian fights for a foreign army, they lose their Canadian citizenship. This would apply even to those born here - no excuses. You fight for them instead of Canada, then you are one of them.
- Make provincial governments hold back at least 25% of their non-renewable resource revenues (like oil royalties) into sovereign wealth funds where the principal cannot be drained, and they have to reap only the investment income from it. (As Norway does.)
- If Canada has to drop tariffs on the US, avoid anything to do with groceries except dairy (we actually have enough in our managed supply) and maybe meat. Pick on items that are US made but not solely US suppled.
- Make cultural trade agreements within the Commonwealth and Francophonie to bolster our interactions with each other's media, and sideline US media especially in the realm of news & politics. Never depend on US networks for "international" coverage if we can get it somewhere else. Put US news networks into the same bundles as RT, Al Jazeera, and Chinese CCTV.
- Create a Canadian strategic fuel reserve, so we have an adequate fuel supply in all provinces to guard against price shocks, and disruptions due to war/embargos from hostile foreign powers.
- Bolster all electrical inter-ties between provinces, so Canada's power grid can run 100% independently of the US grid at all times. (We might be cutting them off soon.) I do not know if you heard, but Quebec and Newfoundland finally resolved their old hydro disputes, with a new deal that is huge for both of them.
- Keep the carbon tax and similar measures but maybe freeze it, and drastically drop the income tax for the poor and middle class.
- To go with that, all carbon-related revenues get forced by law into projects that create a clean energy grid or reduce emissions by some other means. No rebates except for people who live in areas so rural there is not such thing as transit service, etc., and they have no alternatives. (In other words, force carbon taxes to fulfill their purpose, and no more political santa claus stuff.)
Here is other ideas I have heard which seem a good plan:
- You have to be a Canadian citizen to vote, at any level, or participate in a political party, at any level (even just as donor). Controls already exist on this to some degree, but less and less the lower you go. Nope - only Canadian citizens can participate in Canadian politics. By the way, that includes municipals, which also means eliminating the "property vote", where people and companies can vote somewhere if they own property there. Think about what this would do for how housing development would work.
- Perhaps certain parts of the Charter of Rights, or all of it, should only apply to those with Canadian citizenship. Make rights the incentive for citizenship, and loyalty to Canada the basis of citizenship.
- Foreign citizens (non- Canadians) cannot own dwellings inside Canada, nor can any foreign companies be involved in the ownership of news media or strategic resource industries (rare earths, petroleum, uranium, any sort of energy generation). That means bye bye REITS, bye bye foreign mining and oil interests, bye bye Postmedia (which is US owned).
- Make new military alliances with Europe (incl. UK), as if NATO is already dead or as if the USA is now the enemy of the others in it. Add new alliances with South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, and considering what's been going on lately, especially with Denmark, Mexico, and Panama.
- Start thwarting the US inside the OAS, with Mexico and Panama's help. Invite their traditional foes back in, just to piss them off.
- Stop helping the US enforce its trade sanctions against any other countries; from now on we take action only countries that Canada alone has an interest in cutting off.
- Start preparing to leave NORAD - don't do it, but make it clear our participation is now conditional on the US renouncing any claims to our territory or even the idea of annexation. No point in helping protect a country which now wants to destroy us from being nuked. And tell it to them in those terms, don't make it polite. Do the same for our intelligence alliances like Five Eyes - we are only on their side if they are on ours.
- Expand Canada's military greatly, but focus on defending the Canadian homeland from attack.
