IMHO there are many holes in NASA’s stories.

Yes in those years the US defense budget was so restrictive during the after war boom that they would have thought that a landing on the moon was futile and way outside of their means.

This is true, here’s an interesting picture of sunlight reflecting off a methane lake on the moon Titan.
Of course the moon missions suddenly stopped due to alien bases that were discovered there. Not sure it’s safe to go back yet.
