Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
Not playoff related but how about that gong show/dumpster fire in Ottawa. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy like Eugene Melnyk.

It will be really interesting to see what happens with Randy Lee.
Then there is the whole Karlsson/Hoffman fiasco.
I'm no lawyer but there has to be something there for a Peace Bond to be issued doesn't there? Also if the Karlssons can't prove it was Hoffman's fiance they are headed to a huge defamation lawsuit. I can't see them or their lawyer going so public with this unless they have some pretty significant evidence.

It should be an interesting next few months to see what comes out.

Cheers

That Hoffman story is insane. If it's true, his GF is an awful person. Who does that shit?

And how about the GM Pierre Dorion, apparently a couple of days before the news hit Dorion significantly dropped the asking price for Hoffman.

How’s that for a class act, what a roach!! That whole organization may not pull out of this.

It's like selling a new car off the lot with a ding on it. You gotta do that sort of thing. I guess.

This whole situation is very disturbing. By some reports it sounds like the bullying has been going on for a while. Even if it turns out Hoffman and his gf are not the ones really behind this, both Hoffman and Karlsson could never play on the same team come Sept. Karlsson must really want out of Ottawa now. I'm not sure what a team would offer for Hoffman at the moment. A low draft pick perhaps but not sure if another team would like to be brought into this situation until everything comes to head. I can see maybe Ottawa being forced to buyout or terminate Hoffman's contract.

No, it’s not like that at all. A “ding” you can see. Dorion was concealing something that would have a major impact to the team that bought Hoffman. He’s a roach!!!

You know more about it than I.

I am sure any team taking Hoffman will be doing a lot of due diligence sorting this mess out. Especially if the stories are true.

Hoffman to the Sharks.
So they now have Evander Kane and Hoffman (and his fiance) in their dressing room. That has all the makings of a dysfunctional room.
I wonder if Jumbo Joe is considering retirement?
Not so fast JB....Hoffman from Sharks to Panthers for a bunch of picks!!! Crazy. Dorion couldn’t get a deal done with Florida so Doug Wilson back doored him. Beautiful!!!

Brilliant!
So overall SJ trades Boedker, D-prospect Julius Bergman, a 2020 6th round pick and 2018 7th round pick and ultimately get D-prospect Cody Donaghey, 4th and 5th round 2018 picks, 2nd round 2019 pick and 6th round 2020 pick.
Well done Doug Wilson.
And Pierre Dorian couldn't get the 2nd rounder out of Florida because...?...he's just a fucking tool?

Looks like Doug Wilson and San Jose are getting serious about the idea of making a big pitch to John Tavares.
Boedker was on a long term 4mil/year deal and he cleared out that cap space while also picking up some trade chips for the future.
If they can figure out a way to get rid of all of the money that Paul Martin is eating up they might really be building toward something.

Agree. Thornton is up this year as well at $8M. I doubt they resign him at that amount again. Martin will be a buyout I’m sure. They will be loaded to take a run at quality FA’s.

Thornton had 36 points in 47 games last year- works out to about a 63 point season. Top 3-4 on the team.
He's getting signed for sure, and not too cheap either. count on at least 5 mil.
He's the heart of the team and still drives the bus despite Pavelski wearing the "C".
And Kane still needs a steady influence.
Couture and Pavelski are both UFAs in 2019- look for one of them to go if a Tavares deal is ever going to happen. Personally I would keep Logan. SJ would get a solid return back in picks and prospects for either.
I'd be very surprised if Jumbo doesn't return next year.

As much as I agree that Jumbo has been a huge part of what San Jose has done in becoming a perennial playoff team I think if they have the opportunity to get Tavares you have to make the tough decision and let Jumbo go in free agency. They've proven that they can make that difficult decision when they let Marleau walk and in this current NHL it can be deadly to get too tied up into loyalty with an aging veteran.
With that being said, I think if they don't end up landing Tavares there is a good chance that they do bring back Jumbo on a one year deal, but the price really has to be right. 5 mil for a soon to be 39-year old who missed half of last season plus the playoffs is a bit too steep.

For sure- they made the tough decision with Marleau.
I really don't think Joe is going anywhere. Other aging vets I would consider it- but not him. He still makes everyone around him better. Sure he's 39- but he's not broken and I don't think he is in serious decline. And I can't see him wanting to sign up with someone else- he wants his Cup in SJ. And I feel that the Sharks have as legitimate a shot as anyone in the West- Preds and Jets included.
He is an asset that provides the best value if he stays on. Obviously can't trade him.
Another (less likely) scenario is they actually sign Tavares and Joe agrees to a discount.
But right now their cap space is about $11.5M. Chris Tierney and Tomas Hertl are both RFAs this year. Timo Meier is an RFA next year. These guys need to be taken care of. Along with Pavelski and Couture as UFAs next year.
It makes sense to get another $6-7M off the books to have a shot at Tavares and still keep this group together..
Still some very difficult decisions for Doug Wilson.
