16 years of War: Life on the Review boards

It's very funny how little has changed over the past 16-years in Alberta. At least in regards to the drama, battles and endless fighting amongst people in Alberta.

Sometimes it's just uttery exhausting; other times it's just hilarious, and other times it's just plain sad. It's our legacy of the past 16-years of endless confrontation. Most of the fights and drama are based on rumour mongering, petty jealousy, paranoia, people trying to police the community or people being too fanatical trying to control someone else's opinion.

The truly sad part is most of the drama and never ending fighting is mostly avoidable. If we were more open to listening to one another and having adult conversations things would be different. A combination of poor leadership, double standards and endless rumour mills have really created a province suffering from caged rat syndrome.

The whole point of the hobby is stress relief and a opportunity to spend some time with a great lady to enjoy a fantasy and take a break from reality.

All the ugliness and endless in-fighting in Alberta has the exact opposite effect. You end-up feeling stressed, miserable and exausted. You're spending $1000's of dollars a year only to experience the exact opposite of what you should feel about the hobby.

Hopefully Alberta will come to a realization someday and we'll remember what the hobby is really all about. 90% of the experiences are positive one's if you're willing to let go of all of the drama junkie issues.

There's hope. I believe there's a lot of good people who are at a breaking point who are 100% sick and tired of the insanity in Alberta. Hopefully we'll hit that breaking point sooner rather than later.

Hey I get that you are from another board located elsewhere and you have things you want to talk about. It strikes me that this is Perb and this place has been our home for a very long time without having to even acknowledge other places. Even though those who were banned from Perb, they could not stop talking about what goes on here when they took up residence elsewhere. Mostly bad of course but that's what banned people do because that's their only soapbox.

Some left of their own accord, some were banned and some I have no idea where they ended up; nor do I care. I will say the infighting and drama has significantly decreased since their departure so obviously some smart moves were made along the way.

Can we now move on from those other places with all their drama and BS?

Maybe start a blog elsewhere so you can share your thoughts with like minded people? Or have a new chapter and leave the past behind?

The internet it's serious business.

I could never think of a good reason to ever go to Alberta, still can't.

I plan to set aside some money for a road trip to BC to partake in some Westcoast delights in the New Year. It would be wonderful if Canada took same attitude as the British punter culture. It's always amazed how well the Brits handle things in the punter universe.

Britain is not perfect. It has it problems too. The no no-nonsense Brits are amazingly professional in how they manage their communities.

First off, Perb is about more than just the west coast boys. There are actually Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba sections and we have a right to discuss our issues on this board for that reason. On the other hand, Alabama, please don't bring battles and issues from CAF onto this board. There's no point to it and I'm sure almost no one here appreciates it including members from Alberta.

All that being said, I agree with Westwoody. AB, I know you usually mean well but you do tend to over-dramatize things. Comparing disputes on review boards to "16 years of War," is just a little bit over the top.

"War" was a deliberate dramatic over statement. I was making fun of the fact that people have been arguing about the same topics over the past 16 years. Aside from the domains none of the arguments have changed.

I'm actually making a point about how problems migrate from one website to the next. The problems would be the same regardless of what domain name you slap on the sites. The point is exactly the one you're making Bad Santa. The Logo or domain of choice has never been relevant.

I'm hoping the 5th time will be the charm.

If Alberta decides to move back to PERB in the future, I would hope it was with the intention of moving forward vs. Alberta simply switching domains for the 5th time in 12 years only to keep moving the same issues from one domain to the next.

Does that make sense?

It does, kind of. But people and issues will always be the same no matter which board they're on. In the end, the main difference is in how the boards are managed. I think Perb does a pretty good job.

Keeping the identity of the mods confidential makes a huge difference on PERB. It allow the mods to remain objective when doing their jobs. Having mods function under their client handles appeared to be a good idea at first. We know better now.

5-6 years ago I would've argued the exact opposite. Now I can see the wisdom behind protecting the Mods anonymity.

There's not too much too worry about anyway. There's a massive seismic shift in technology coming around the world over the next several years. A lot of the things we're doing today to find an escort will be that thing we used to-do 5-years ago that took too long.

Seeing some of the cool web 4.0 tech the Aussies, Brits, Dutch, and Americans are working on, I'm more optimistic than pessimistic about things in the near future.

In a web 4.0 space people who don't get along with one another are not forced to interact with one another and can't interact with one another. The user has 100% of his/her webspace.

This goes way past the what the ignore function does today. There's some artificial intelligence involved that prevent interactions between two parties who don't get along.

FaceBook, Twitter and Instrgram are backing the project. API's will also be available to web designers.

Maybe you need to find a new group of friends? Sounds like you're in some little bubble or believe that there is only 1 community for each location...BTW this is an alberta board as well, it has sections for calgary and edmonton I am sure.

Some days it would be nice to have real intelligence.

We live in a world where Donald Trump was elected President. Unfortunately there's no technology in world that can fix that problem.

Once again, issues on other boards, belong there, not here. Thread closed. If the point hasn't been made clear, we are not interested in discussing, complaining, flaming or disparaging other boards here. Next time infractions will be issued.
