VCman U jus wsh U R Kul lyk I M, I RUL dood!

Seriously though, it looks like I've managed to generally piss off Vancouverman. My 5 short messages did indeed make a point (whether one agrees with it or not), and they wasted an infinitesimal amount of bandwidth and overhead.

So, why are you actually irritated with me? Something I said on this thread, or another?

Back to the point, if the guy running this message board really does want to leave the email size limit to 1000 characters, to save bandwidth, I can't be too unhappy with this since he's providing me with a service which I'm not paying anything for. My feeling was that if we let him know that we'd like it raised, he might well do it. It doesn't actually save bandwidth or storage space if one sends 3 1000 character messages rather than 1 3K message. The 3 1K messages actually use up more space.

I don't see why there is any limit. There isn't one when you post? So why when you send an email or a PM?

FredZ has his reasons and i'm sure they are good ones, but there is no harm is enquiring to have it raised.
Fred Zed doesn't need to answer because I know these ones.

First of all, VM is right that the reason is space....if you want longer PMs, it will cost you the use of posting pictures or some other high bandwidth option. Also, there *IS* a limit on the length of posts which is currently set at 10 000 for PERB (which is generous because TERB only gets 5000). At the bottom of any reply window, hit the "check message length" button and it will tell you the limits.

Ultimately, PMs are not supposed to be used for typing out a thesis, just for quick notes. If people are serious about expanding PM space, by all means email Fred Zed directly (since I'm quite sure he doesn't read threads otherwise).....but be aware that it will cost the PERB members from somewhere else to keep the bandwidth equation balanced.

correct me if Im wrong..

as far as images and avatars go..the only ones that take up perb bandwidth are the one for example avatars uploaded from your hd..images and avatars that are hotlinked to other sites only take up the bandwidth of the other site not perb..That is my understanding..

I too have a problem keeping to the 1000 character pm limit. Probably would have a problem keeping to a 1500 character limit. I don't know about others, but I just try to keep my comments shorter and edit if it exceeds the limit. But sometimes the limit is very restrictive. As for the 10000 character posting limit. I think this is a waste of resources as I rarely read the longer rants.
