    Well thank you @FredZed, perb is now using encryption with an up to date cert. I think some php needs to be updated as some static image content is still being served over http, but the main site is working over SSL now. Thanks!

    pretty well all major websites are now encrypted. In essence the software that makes websites work do encryption "for free" as it is the default mode of operation. Perb just needs to be brought up to date too.

    from a technical stand point, there isn't any reason not to use encrypted https anymore. https://letsencrypt.org/ FREE domain certs! any sysadmin worth their salt can use it and add SSL to a website.
