Those things are death traps. I'm surprised they haven't tried to put some kind of regulations on them.

Came within an inch of killing a kid who was going too fast, couldn't make the corner, so swung wide into the oncoming lane just I I was entering from the opposite direction. Luckily, I wasn't going too fast and was paying attention, and had room to do a hard right to avoid hitting head on. As it was, he brushed (and scratched) the side of my car, and took off. He never even reacted like he'd had a close escape.

I couldn't be bothered to ride an electric scooter, and the previous posts reinforce my decsion not to. Personally when I was younger, I rode manual scooters and pulled tricks on them as if I was riding a skateboard.

Scooters are totally inferior to bicycles. The electric ones are death traps. I rode one, once, and had a terrifying experience. A friend of a friend died on one. They should be banned or limited to 10 kph

When I see some fuckwad doing 30kph on one of these scooters, no helmet, I figure its Darwinism happening in real time.

They have mutated to the point of being vehicles in many cases. I didn't a get pic, but saw a lady sitting down on a very big one, with a seat bolted on it, doing over 30 km on the sidewalk. She didn't have a helmet on, had her cell phone mounted on it and was wearing headphones, completely oblivious to any risks or safety hazards. That's a vehicle, not a scooter.

For how prevalent and accessible they are, im very surprise we havent seen a big uptick in accidents and deaths regarding them. No regulations, no insurances, no accountability. Not a problem until its a problem i guess.

They are too fast, can’t stop quickly enough, aren’t very manoeuvrable when they are going faster, and when a rider crashes, there is an increased likelihood of a head injury.
Kids absolutely love them because you don’t need a license and you can go fast 🙄

I don’t think BC (and maybe Canada) is big on prevention. Only when something becomes a problem and gets noticed publicly, then they will try to find a solution to fix it.

Can't believe it sometimes. Driving down a road doing the limit, and some guy on a scooter passes me like I'm standing still. I'm sure they're being modified to go 40 KPH or faster.

I understand Ontario is looking at changing the laws of the road for E Bikes.
As an aside, the one I have, a 750W 3yr old unit carrying me at 200lbs can easily hit 35kph and faster with just a bit of a down hill grade. Safer than the scooters but still in city driving similar to vehicles.
Also being jaded about taxes and license fees I am sure municipalities are looking at this as an untapped revenue source for registration.

I have an ebike. I think every bike should be registered and insured.

I prefer the e scooter over the e bike. I find just standing straight way more comfortable than my ebike's lean foward sit position. My neck and shoulders get sore after a while with the bike. . I have a Trek Dual Sport + and thats not even a sporty riding position.

Motor vehicle law... 50 CC. No licence required. Anybody got any idea of how to convert to wattage of an electric system.

The lawmakers should consider sidewalks only for electric wheelchairs, and electric scooter at 15 km/h. Electric scooters bike paths only on the roads.

The reason most kids drive on the sidewalk is because its too dangerous for them on the road. Cars are the problem for these kids...

50 years ago, bikes on the road was safer, when the drivers of cars obeyed the law and let them have space. Today the roads are not wide enough, drivers try to squeeze by bikes. Just bad reactions of both sides, the bikers and the drivers.

A 50 cc engine Google says produces between 2 to 5 horsepower. 735 watts per horsepower.

When I see one coming I walk along the smooth narrow strip along the edge of the sidewalk.

I’m heartless, I was walking down the street and I saw some people(no helmets)doubling on a lime e-scooter blow by me on a street and they had to maneuver around a roundabout. I heard a crash and I didn’t even look back. 😂

Hey you old guys just remember you learned how to ride a bike without a helmet on.... I think that is where most people learned to slide out/ spin out before going over the handle bars...
