Those things are death traps. I'm surprised they haven't tried to put some kind of regulations on them.

Came within an inch of killing a kid who was going too fast, couldn't make the corner, so swung wide into the oncoming lane just I I was entering from the opposite direction. Luckily, I wasn't going too fast and was paying attention, and had room to do a hard right to avoid hitting head on. As it was, he brushed (and scratched) the side of my car, and took off. He never even reacted like he'd had a close escape.

I couldn't be bothered to ride an electric scooter, and the previous posts reinforce my decsion not to. Personally when I was younger, I rode manual scooters and pulled tricks on them as if I was riding a skateboard.

Scooters are totally inferior to bicycles. The electric ones are death traps. I rode one, once, and had a terrifying experience. A friend of a friend died on one. They should be banned or limited to 10 kph

When I see some fuckwad doing 30kph on one of these scooters, no helmet, I figure its Darwinism happening in real time.

They have mutated to the point of being vehicles in many cases. I didn't a get pic, but saw a lady sitting down on a very big one, with a seat bolted on it, doing over 30 km on the sidewalk. She didn't have a helmet on, had her cell phone mounted on it and was wearing headphones, completely oblivious to any risks or safety hazards. That's a vehicle, not a scooter.

For how prevalent and accessible they are, im very surprise we havent seen a big uptick in accidents and deaths regarding them. No regulations, no insurances, no accountability. Not a problem until its a problem i guess.

They are too fast, can’t stop quickly enough, aren’t very manoeuvrable when they are going faster, and when a rider crashes, there is an increased likelihood of a head injury.
Kids absolutely love them because you don’t need a license and you can go fast 🙄

I don’t think BC (and maybe Canada) is big on prevention. Only when something becomes a problem and gets noticed publicly, then they will try to find a solution to fix it.

Can't believe it sometimes. Driving down a road doing the limit, and some guy on a scooter passes me like I'm standing still. I'm sure they're being modified to go 40 KPH or faster.

I understand Ontario is looking at changing the laws of the road for E Bikes.
As an aside, the one I have, a 750W 3yr old unit carrying me at 200lbs can easily hit 35kph and faster with just a bit of a down hill grade. Safer than the scooters but still in city driving similar to vehicles.
Also being jaded about taxes and license fees I am sure municipalities are looking at this as an untapped revenue source for registration.

I have an ebike. I think every bike should be registered and insured.

I prefer the e scooter over the e bike. I find just standing straight way more comfortable than my ebike's lean foward sit position. My neck and shoulders get sore after a while with the bike. . I have a Trek Dual Sport + and thats not even a sporty riding position.
