uh...Edmonton.
....as it often is. I went up to the local 7-11 to drag out funds from my president's choice chequing account (love those guys, no service fees and any 7-11 is a free transaction). I then whipped over to the Money Mart for a money order (hate PC for that, no physical presence means no certification capabilities) and found....to my horror....that I was $20 short of the number I had withdrawn. OMG. I even had the moneymart chick count it again just to make sure....she made a bit of a show of "ohgawdhereisadoltwhodoesn'ttrustmycounting" and began to count it very slowly....I waved my hand from the other side of the bullet proof glass and said..."no no...just recount it, I trust you, I'm just unsure why I am short" (genetics?).

In any event, we concluded our business with smiles and I whistled back to the 7-11 to see if my $20 was stuck in the machine (it had happened before...I found $20 in the slot, turned it in to the clerk saying....this isn't mine, if someone is missing it, it must be theirs. If not, I guess it's yours).

No luck. I never count out funds from a bank machine, frankly I think all that time spent counting out the millions of dollars that I withdraw at any one time would do nothing but make me a target for an unsavoury individual so I just pocket it and go with my blind faith in technology.

I think it is just a very very bad machine. So, I have sent PC a random comment detailing the events of the day and explaining that I expect there is zero to fuck all they can do about it. Also indicating that I admire their service and never fail to recommend them....no service fees and they pay interest. How on earth can you beat that?

So....as I cycled my ass home I thought....well, this is karma indeed. At first I thought, I have been screwed...how unfair. But, on hindsight I realize I haven't been screwed...just annoyed. If the funds exist and have been illgotten...then the illgetter will have to live with that. Enjoy your $20.

Being screwed is coming home to finding your place randomly ransacked....or your child missing....or your Ipod refusing to play anything but the best of Michael Jackson.

The sun is shining and the winter is waning. I suppose this post needs a question....ummm....how about...."do you count the funds that the instateller spits at you or accept it on blind faith?"

Always good to have a question....

kindest,

eddie.

....Just like your faith would be if your faith was in God or the gods or any other superstition.

I count the money still standing there where the camera can see. Don't care how many people are waiting behind me.

Who goes to 7/11 for a withdrawal? And who goes to Moneymarts? And who even withdraws in the first place?

I don't. I used to, but then after 1,793 times of getting exactly what I was supposed to....I gave it up as an act of futility. While I don't have faith in religious icons, I respect those that do.

I do. I withdraw funds often. I enjoy cash as it is not traceable. For those moments when I wish to make a purchase from a private vendor of high enough value that I want a transaction receipt....I will secure a money order or certify the cheque. Since I don't pay a monthly stipend to my financial institution for the privelege of them keeping my money secure for me....I must find alternative methods for the random times when I will require said certification.

Is there a better choice for independent certification of funds than the $4.99 that MoneyMart charges? If so, I would be delighted to know of them.

Financial institutions charge you? I have 2 bank accounts, zero fees. You don't like the security of a credit card? With a credit card I can call them up and within 5 minutes dispute a charge on my card and get my money back, do you have the same security for a money order?

EDIT: Also getting 3.5% locked yearly interest on my non-invested funds.

I am not nearly as smart as the next guy. I know that and will never lose sight of that. I view that as a strength.

All I know for sure is that I like what I do and I am appreciative of logical, intelligent, and independant advice. I am glad that you are happy with your situation, it sounds wonderful.

May I ask where you're getting that?
Its an old td policy that I have, lucky they still allow me at add money at that rate. Rates atm are 1.5/year-3.0/5year(non-redeemable). Rates should go up by next year a little closer to inflation.
