I see people who can barely afford to buy a big mac at mcds and they have a couple of pets. They'd often starve themselves but have enough $ to buy pet food.
This is true...unlike studies on having children has been proven NOT to improve the quality of life....enough said...Having pets as companions improves not only your health, but your overall quality of life. It helps a lot of people with depression, loneliness and isolation. Pets will love you no matter what, sometimes that is what people need. Unlike people, pets really don't care how much is in your bank account.
Those people have priorities mixed up. They should give up their pets to a shelter and get their life in order and then go get the pet again or find a new one. But these people are not that smart.I see people who can barely afford to buy a big mac at mcds and they have a couple of pets. They'd often starve themselves but have enough $ to buy pet food.
Exactly. I have a cat and what a great companion!Having pets as companions improves not only your health, but your overall quality of life. I feel fairly confident in saying that some of these people on the street with dogs will tell you that their pet companion gives them a reason to continue living. Looking after their little friend gives them a sense of purpose. Those people have priorities mixed up. Pets do help people but if they are literally starving you then you need to stop thinking emotionally and start thinking logically. Give up the pet.
Thank You for this post Yman, some people will never "understand". And guess what? "Some people", yer gonna fuckin die some day, and you'll wake up and wonder...Why...What...and ...then weep like you never did in this life.I feel fairly confident in saying that some of these people on the street with dogs will tell you that their pet companion gives them a reason to continue living. I can't imagine they find much inspiration or sense of purpose elsewhere on the street.
Logic is overrated and emotion underrated. I have been in the situation LAG's talking about and it sucks but I survived the experience and so did my cat, she turns 18 this year, and without her I probably would not be here. It comes down to responsibility I was responsible for my cat so she came first and I had to be around to take care of her, she was 3 years old when I got her. Those people have priorities mixed up. Once again, good point......and I'm still young!!Logic is overrated and emotion underrated. One other thing, the dirty little secret about pet adoptions is most people would rather have a puppy or kitten then have an adult. And when shelters uthanized animals it was the ones that could not be adopted which were mostly the older animals.
the reasons you don't have a pet aren't so obvious ? ..perhaps to you but not to me.Thank You for this post Yman, some people will never "understand". And guess what? BTW, I don't have a pet right now....for obvious reasons.
To quote one comedien..
"I hate it when homeless people ask for money when they have a perfectly delicious dog standing next to them...talk to me when the dogs all gone buddy"
Feel free to slam me lol I had to![]()
I'm not just referring to street and poor people - I'm referring to ANYONE who cannot afford vet bills. I'm just of the opinion that you really need to plan and make sure you can afford a pet and EVERYTHING that comes along with it BEFORE getting the animal.
