mick you drank the Linden-aid. He was an average player but it's not his fault he was over hyped. If you remember when he went to Montreal he actually spent more time in the press box than on the ice AND he was making about 4 million at the time. Not to mention he sucked in NY BIG time. Oh yeah and how about how he carried the Capitals? Please don't let being a good guy cloud your judgement about being a great hockey player.

His work with Canuck Place and such should be commended but please, enough of the Heart and Soul of the Canucks crap.
Spoken like a true Stan Smyl fan.

excellent post...

historically, maybe one of the most overrated hockey players in the history of the game...

every single act and utterance was to self-promote himself...

will eventually end up in politics, which is where he belongs...

he can than kiss babies, and further his legend in Vancouver...

Yes, he's got plenty of time off each year and plenty of money. Obviously. So does every NHL player, and virtually every professional sports player.
...unless said player is in the CFL. Most of them have full time jobs off the field.

Another cocky little guy was Mike Vernon. My sister worked in his bank back in the late 80's when he was Mr. Wonderful-Calgary's native son. She said he had a pretty big ego and thought all the women swooned over him...which apparently wasn't entirely true.

I went to school with his younger sister Shelly, in grade 12. Pissed her off big time when I wore an Oiler jersey to class in 1987 the day after the Oil beat the Flyers to win the cup. If looks could kill! lol I'd have been dead at 17...hehe :D

Do as I have, travel to the east coast, go to some games.
Go to see the Islanders.
Ask the fans about Linden......
Tell them the Canucks are retiring his jersey.

You are dead on about self-promotion.

Did you know that over the last 10 years.
Lindens stats are almost the same as Ohlunds
points and ppg

A fucking stay at home d-man :p

Linden really was a good hockey player for the first years of his career - a great rookie year too. To me it all went completely downhill when he broke his leg. He was never the same after. He even seemed to skate funny like he was always just pushing around on one leg. So yeah for the last 2/3rds of his career quite frankly I thought he was lucky to be playing in the NHL.

I've hung out with Pavel (and some other Nucks). He was an idiot. He had one friend who was also an idiot. Girls would flock to him and then disappear just as quickly. He is completely lacking in personality and simply had nothing to offer off the ice.

They are just people with a talent that make a lot of money. I've never understood why all the fuss? I've met many stars and athletes. Some are very nice and some are jack asses, just like the rest of society.

Personally I'd rather hang out with any of my friends than some guy just because he plays a sport or is a celebrity. Friends became friends because they have brought something meaningful to your life, not because they scored 50 goals. Get a grip on what's important my man ;)

Same attitude if you were invited to hang out with some of the UFC heavyweights ?:)

Long time friend of mine was a huge fan of his..I think at the time he played for the Canucks? He met him and strangely, his opinion changed and he thought he was the biggest dickhead on the planet.

Bure was a one man show in hockey. Sit around, wait for the perfect pass & score.

Didn't Mike Keenan refer to Bure as a snot nosed little goal suck or something like that?

a friend of mine was friendly with Igor Larianov, and got me a signed Pavel picture for my uncle who was a long time Canuck fan

I personally don't give them the time of day when I see them....give them their privacy and don't give them swelled heads from the attention.

I saw Daniel Sedin at my local Safeway a month ago, only a couple of us in the store even recognized him.
You sure it wasn't Henrik? :p

Met Larry Robinson and Bobby Orr. Both were great people.
Met Jerry Rice while in SF. Just crossing the street like me. Really cool guy.
Jimmy Spencer at Wal-Mart - Total Fuck-Head. (Nascar)
Guy LaFleur - nice guy
Also many of the Winnipeg Jets. All were nice guys except Keith Tkchuk.
Didn't know Bobby Hull was a wife beater, are you sure???

I have a brother in law and his dad who both played in the NHL, as well as a hall of famer cousin who played, so have met and played with many past and current players, as well as Don Cherry. Gino Odjick has to be the most colourful. I play golf with a lot of players and Gino and Richard Brodeur were in my foursome. Brodeur is a prick to play golf with. Gina is a total chain smoker.
