Just a little rant..

Quality, not quantity.
This morning was just like any other..

I woke up alive and well, had my coffee, finished some school work that was much past due date (oops) and got ready to head out on the town with a girlfriend of mine! All was well and I was more than enthusiastic! - You could have considered me bouncing off the walls with glee! - Haha

Anyway, my girlfriend and I were about to hit up the grocery store when she decided to make a pit stop at the bank to pay off some debt... So she jumped out of the car (although I love 007 she did park the ride first - Haha) but didn't turn off the engine.

Now - to make my rant clear - I do not drive. I never have driven, and I just don't see the point in learning while I live in Vancouver. Gas is expensive and cab drivers plus transit make a real living off me anyway! Therefore i don't know the laws of the road! - So..

While she was gone, for maybe 5 minutes, (during this time I may have continued to do a little dance and talk on my telly - Haha) a woman tapped on the glass of the car with her keys. I didn't find this very polite, we weren't in a Mercedes but her car is no beater and keys could scratch, So I unrolled the window unimpressed. She looked at me with disgust and said "You stupid young girls always laughing, don't you know to turn off your engine! Its the new law, Jezzz!" (I cleaned up her language a bit) So I smiled, with regards to the environment, turned off the car and apologized. She then continued to freak out at me until finally I told her that I wasn't in the drivers seat and I didn't know how to drive....... But still she continued until my girlfriend finally come out! She then called us a C***s and drove of while giving us the finger!

This incident totally ruined my mood for a bit, until finally me and my girl laughed it off and make fun of the whole situation.

My question is why are people so bitter, and doesn't anyone think of the consequences of yelling at strangers? What if I was mentally unstable, or had serious anger management issues? Wouldn't you be scared to be so stern and rude to randoms? I have experienced so many situations like this living in Vancouver that I myself feel like retaliating in the same way, but I know that won't get me anywhere, maybe that's how these people got there?

Has anyone out there felt themselves going over board with a stranger, possibly taking out life stresses out on them and couldn't stop themselves? How did the situation escalate? End result?

Why, why, why!

I feel better now - that was my rant for the evening!

Someone once got mad at me for going through the timmy's drive through.
How I was wasting gas. Funny thing was I was just beginning a work trip to Quesnel
I guess the drive through contributed to .001% of the fuel I used that day

I remember awhile back there was a story about some handicap lady
who decided to give some young guy a lecture, when he parked in a wheelchair spot. And he shoved her down or something.

People do need to watch what they say.
Just cause you are right, it doesn't make you immune to the wacko going overboard

Nothing is as contagious as a bad mood and people in them are too willing to share their affliction. All you can do is laugh at people as they go off. The results are hilarious and often make for good stories ;)

What the fuck? I know its been a couple of years since I last lived in BC, but this is the first that I heard of such a law. Most of the time people like that are just looking for an excuse to bitch someone out, no matter how minor, and that there is something else that is bothering her. Personally, I would have told her to mind her own business, but that's just me.

It's a bylaw usually per city. You see those no idling zone signs here and there.

Also I agree with the OP that a lot of people are too uptight in Vancouver. It's not hard to be polite if something bugs you.

Pfft, I've got a fix to your problem.

Move to Calgary...and bask in the glory of allowing your 16 cylinder Hummer idle for 20 minutes while you wait for your GF to come out of Safeway. And oh yeah, feel free to take TWO spots when you park it (because obviously it's too fucking difficult to put your car between the two yellow lines).

:D
Bahahahahahahahhahahah............................. You should definatly be the spokes person for Calgary. Amazing, I'm buying my plane ticket now!

I'll only add that "just because you're right, it doesn't give you the right to get in other peoples' faces and read them the riot act."

Tapping your window with a key is a sign of disrespect as is throwing a fit at a total stranger. I think the appropriate response is to calmly tell them to f*** off.

I agree, this city has too many people trying to save us all from ourselves.

I get so sick of people telling me my choice in car, isn't environmentally friendly. They don't know me, they don't know that I drive this car about 2000km total in a year. So what that it gets 15mpg. I use less gas that probably 95% of car owners in this city. Yet get bitched at all the time.

Sorry to jack your thread :p

I really hate people who think it's their God-given responsibility to lecture others on the speck in their eye, while being totally oblivious to the board in their own.

Like a certain Sgt. Schultz, I see nothing, I say nothing. They can do what they want. As long as they're not doing it directly to me or my property.

People who openly (and usually rudely) criticize strangers, are idiots, plain and simple. There are many rage filled time bombs walking around these days, saying 'just give me a reason to lose it on you'. Ya never know just who you're dealing with.

Ahhh, thanks. That explains a lot.

I would just like to add that me telling someone like that to mind their own business would be IF I was in a good mood. If in the off-chance I was in a fairly bad mood, my response to tell them to mind their own business would be followed by the suggestion that she take certain large objects and insert them in her ass. This of course would be in a tone loud enough for everyone within five city blocks to hear.

Haha awesome, I should have tried that approach but I'm pretty sure this lady had enough things up her ass. Hehe..:p

Thats exactly what I ment though when I said "doesn't anyone think of the consequences of yelling at strangers?" I mean I personally have been blown up on by many strangers when I wasn't even offending them (ie. looking at them the wrong way) and have never striked back.

Does anyone have any funny stories about there revenge tactics?

The monster under your bed
my mother turns her car off if she stops at a red light, so maybe it was her yelling at you, shes kind of crazy especially when it comes to the environment and tofu. (I love my mom, but she is extreme hippie)lol:D
Too bad it takes more gas to start your car and is harder on the engine
with repeated start and stops. You should tell your mom its worse to turn
it off for 30seconds then to let it run..
sure if your going to be out of it for more then 5mins turn it off, but other then
that it makes no sense to turn it off then on then off again:rolleyes:

Couple things. First, the blonde, the breasts, hot!. Now, on to bitchy people. Unfortunatley we cannot change everyone.Only ourselves. Im not a conformer and I try to never say "thats just how it is." Thats not, just, how the fuck it is; and if i feel like challenging an issue,I will. This woman was out of control and you hit the nail on the head, pondering the different senarios that could of arose from her ignorance and bad attitude. I dont handle being verbally attacked by others very well. I think it should be pretty simple. If you have an issue with me....uh.....hang on for it......tell me mother fucker. Do not yell at me, do not talk snidely, do not call me names or put me down. How utterly unecessary. Can you imagine if we all acted like this? Uncivilized I tell ya lol. So, I tell people that now. The first time it happens.Co-workers,neighbours and strangers alike. Just tell me; you will get a much better reaction from me. Im a good person, not a moron, pretty easy to get along with.No need for pissiness. In your situation, I would of finally cracked and told her to FUCK OFF! Sorry to hear about the experience.Welcome to the day! We have to teach people how to treat us,or they'll do it their way.
Have a happy day friends !! :)

She was most likely a tad mentally ill. There isn't much you can do except what you already did. If you had gotten into a screaming match with her then you would have been drawn into her dirt. These situations take us by surprise and we tend to second guess ourselves after the incident..."I should've done this, or that" but, if you have made it your life's work to deal with humans in a very socially intimate position then you have more than likely developed the instinct to do what is appropriate.

funny story about idling engines. an old friend had lived for years in a climate so cold the villagers let their unlocked cars idle while they shopped so the engine blocks wouldn't freeze up. when he moved back to civilization one winter and went shopping at the local mall he followed his usual habit and was surprised to find his car was missing when he returned to the parking lot! True story.

HERE'S THE RULE OF THUMB: If you're in a drive-through restaurant/business line or waiting for someone and you'll be parked and sitting for 10 seconds or longer... turn off your car's engine. ;)
