" On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

"On March 29, between 8-9pm, Vancouver will demonstrate our commitment to action on climate change to the world by powering down for Earth Hour. Already, people and businesses are getting excited about this opportunity and participation in the city is growing by the day. All City of Vancouver, BC Hydro, and Vancity buildings have already committed to powering down for Earth Hour. BC Hydro will measure the drop of the collective electricity use during the event."

so yeah...

had the laptop running on battery for just over an hour. battery was down to 12% remaining. This is the first time since I bought the thing that i've had to run it on battery for any extended length of time. When I bought it, the pimpley faced teenager said the battery would last 2+ hours...

lying fuckers

I hate to disappoint you, but when you recharge the battery you use up the exact amount of power you think you have saved, only a little later.....

yeah yeah...

its the same as not buying gas on "protest days" or whatever.

people just buy more gas the day before, and the day after...all works out the same in the end.

But atleast we think we're doing something that help ;)

The sun controls the temperature of EVERYTHING in the solar system, it just finished an 11 year sun spot cycle giving off the most radiance in recorded history, and it has just cooled down in the last few months. ALL the planets show signs of temp increase, icy moons around Jupiter and Saturn are melting away and yet there WAY farther from the sun.

Im no expert or anything...in fact, I hardly pay attention to all this global warming stuff...

but I dont think it takes a rocket scientist to realize all this shit we put in the air is bad for the environment. It sure isn't good...

Used it as an excuse to sit on the backporch, light up the firepit, smoke a cigar, drink hot rum and tell the SO about having been offered a 20 minute free session to flog Misstress T. / Small Pleasures with Mistress Dominique watching.:p

You really know how to live! Or die, depending on how your SO would take that sort of info.

PS. How'd ya get the free 20 minutes with Ms. T. Is she running a contest or something?
The SO just grinned and shook her head, in a " you nut job " sort of way. Keep in mind the SO is in the infantry, and spends a couple days a week playing with handgrenades and automatic weapons.

As to Ms. T., well she stepped up to get some more activity happening in the BDSM forum and offered a 20 minute free session with her for input in that forum. I was one of a couple of people that she considered as having made a contribution worthy of a session.

You have to give her credit for going above and beyond for the cause.:)

So why would cities like ours have to participate in that if we are
mostly (I believe) hydroelectric powered???

Does the turbines at the damn cause global warming too?
