And I wish to use myself as an example of exactly what my complaint with it all is, and that is when you (meaning myself) believe you are working in the framework of an understood standard (in this case, "men"), you tend to carry on as though anything characterizing the standard is to be interpreted positively and anything outside the standard is to be taken negatively. In this case, it would be taken to mean that a man having bad table manners is unusual (which is a positive stereotype of men). But since the standard is "male", if you said "some woman had bad table manners", it could be taken to mean that yet another woman has bad table manners and this is not unusual.
Well if it happens to be a Chinese guy whacking off in the middle of wreck beach, would you then go tell him that whacking off in public is not acceptable in Canada?
