Sadly the ideal that government should benefit its citizens was lost to many, or even worse perverted to mean some citizens over others, a long time ago. The only nation in the developed world to not have some sort of universal health care system has devolved into a haven for white supremacy and christian nationalism in control of their most basic institutions.
The other day I heard one if my favourite comedians quip that if having their ancestors spinning in their graves could be harnessed as a way to generate electricity America would be a global leader in green energy.

I just got back from a week in the US. Business of science meetings so the general crowd are skewed to the intelligent whether on the left or right, California then Arizona. The magats were decidedly not visible (I saw NO red hats) and in general quiet, however the Faux News channel was prevalent. I watched snippets in my room, brushing my teeth, putting on shoes that kind of thing, it was on in the hotel breakfast bar. Holy fuck - the propaganda machine was in full swing. If that is all the population sees, there is little chance of them getting the real story.

I took a vacation from this thread, but today's second execution of a peaceful protestor has me back. If you still support Trump and his cadre of stormtroopers, you are part of the problem and clearly don't give a shit about democracy, freedom or anything resembling a civilized society.

I’ll add another target audience for Fox.
For a significant number of well educated, well off, white professionals who live in a republican bubble, Fox is their only source of television news. These people are far from stupid in a traditional sense but they have been raised to believe that Republicans are the only fiscally responsible party and anyone else is an evil communist. They also tend to have a shocking amount of built in casual racism. Fox and the Facebook algorithms reinforcing the idiocy are what shapes their world view.
This blatant propaganda is what these people believe to be reality. They truly don’t know how much of a grifter and fascist the trump regime is, and any suggestion of it is dismissed as “fake news”
