The Largest economy is the US (there is some concern that the GNP numbers are fake, using overseas manufacturing to inflate the US companies), but China will surpass them in the next 5-10 years if they haven't already. China's influence will take away the international standard of the American dollar.
Just look at China's shipbuilding industry compared to the US industry (which is running out of trained labour to produce ships).
Its only a matter of time before Canada will collect on those revenues (on DST), and issues warrants to Companies CEOs/CFOs for failure to pay, even if they live in the US.
Canada will have to go through some growing pains, if it wants to untie itself from the US economy. If we want to become a a big energy producers, Canadians will need to change how it does mining and mineral resources to hold a % back for future generations or tax heavily on those resources being sold now.
Our model will be the environmental problems (soil, air, water pollution) the USA did to its environment all in the name of progress. Lets not forget that today we are still finding companies that dumped toxic chemicals (in the USA in the last 140 years) all in the name of increasing profits. And let not forget the massive fraud these companies do by hiding those same profits under shell companies (numbered companies).
The thing is the Fed and prov governments will have to cut into social programs in order to afford a new economy and new military spending.
Canada could come up with a "bitcoin", backed by metal and rare earth reserves (through a 5-40% tax on precious metals mining). They could also charge a small fee or 0.5% to 2 % for every transaction the bitcoin makes (calling this the tax, which the fed government can bring in). The bitcoin would have assets.
