is the doctors shortage manufactured?

i've been wondering about this a lot... especially since i don't have a doctor and have been having more and more trouble seeing one. this, in a country where there are plenty of people who want to be doctors and plenty of doctors who want to move to Canada.

after i review the following from the Vancouver Sun and the Society Of Canadians Studying Medicine Abroad then it would appear to me that our medical system is under attack!

No shit. This notion that doctors trained abroad are unfit to work here is ridiculous. All we need is a system to quickly assess their abilities and get 'em working. Why do we have to put them through another 5 years of (inferior in some cases) medical school.

agreed. and its probably that thing that our political leaders don't want to say out loud because medical profession representative groups would freak out... that there is a contingent of doctors who are fighting to have our system privatized to a model of scarcity like the US so that they can make gobs more money.

I have to agree. I know someone, who was told by a professional gatekeeper organization that he needed to take two university english courses. His facetious reply, "I am English," did not move the gatekeeper one iota and so he took the required courses. At the end of one of them the instructor told him that he could have easily taught that course!!

bullshit rules for doctors and how they can bill.
brain drain, aging population-shrinking workforce, quality of life, doctors retire early, more easier to be a sports star, 8+years post high school, etc, real money in drug research....

I do not want a doctor or nurse whose grasp of medical science has them believing anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories about "WEF injecting satanic nano-robots into the bloodstream".
That's like a pilot who believes their plane is being held up by invisible angels, not that the wings generate lift. Is the fucking dark ages now, that people believe superstitions instead of facts?

They could do a better job of recognizing foreign credentials from legitimate medical schools, but there are also "diploma mills" out there which are producing scammy credentials for every profession. (Just look at trucking - do you want the guys who actually know how to drive, or the kind of dimwits who keep running their trucks into overpasses?)

What they need to do is get off their ass and figure out a way to tell the difference.

I mention Bill C-36 and you mention conspiracy? It's a real bill that gives politicians the power to over rule your Dr., and fine/imprison if they don't like their style of treatment.

For sure it's is a manufactured shortage for which the provincial government is mainly responsible. Their reasoning being every time a doctor is added to the list the cost of medicare goes up by a significant amount so they try and keep that number down. Short sighted reasoning especially the way our illustrious premier is pissing away surplus funds.

Actually, it's up to the provinces to decide how to credential foreign-trained doctors, so I find the use of Poilievre's "gatekeepers" bullshit to be baffling, especially since 8 of the 10 provinces are run by conservatives.

I am at a loss as to why the government perpetuates the lack of family doctor availability by making it easier snd more profitable for a doctor to work at a drop-in clinic than run a family practice. It’s Ok if I’ve got a sniffle or other symptom, but good health requires more continuity and prevention that family doctors provide.

Wow. I only see my gp once a year for blood tests and that's about it. He was a very strong advocate for me when it was discovered that I had a non cancerous tumor in my bowel. The idiot technician that took a sample of the tumor
during my colonoscopy said to me " I don't even have to send this sample away to tell you that that's cancer" Went home and told my family with lots of tears, my gp called me around 8pm that evening to tell me it wasn't cancer! He was furious with that tech.

Naw ,I was just happy that it wasn't cancer. Had no interest in the technician
