This is a smart move on Fox's part, they should have settled a long while ago. If this had gone to the jury, they were dead to rights and there was a big chance of a much larger award. The legal types had already been talking about the Supreme Court either refusing to hear it or ruling against Fox as the conservative side wants to kill the current libel/slander laws. Even some of the Fox on air talent has turned on them while offering commentary. I would love to see Tucker Carlson, Hannity and the rest of them have to own up to their idiotic behavior on air. The 787 million doesn't hurt Murdoch all that much honestly. It would be too much to hope for that this is the start of truth being returned to the airwaves, but it would certainly be nice.

This needed to be a punitive lawsuit to show others what happens when you spread lies and misinformation under the banner of journalism.
When it gets down to it, Rupert Murdoch will pay whatever it takes to not appear in court. Same with the Donald.
Yes, Smartmatic has a similar/larger suit. This settlement will no doubt be something they try in that case as well.
I agree that all should produce accurate info but..... I wouldn't call CNN saints either.

Here we go with the "good people on both sides" shit. There's a difference between bias and a corporate decision to lie, to negate truth and to do so to try and placate viewers all the while undermining democracy and baselessly attacking a corporation that demonstrably did not a single thing it was endlessly accused of doing
Fox news + most of Murdoch's "news" outlets only exist as they are with their specific popularity and money making capability because of a population that has no ability to think critically.
Similar lawsuits against Fox have been successful. Fox defended itself in the Sandy Hook suit by saying they were entertainment, not news.
The Dominion victory shows Fox has adopted a deliberate strategy of lying and creating false narratives to attract viewers.
Deliberate malicious lies are NOT alternate opinions.

I don't need too and I already agreed that more accurate news needs to be introduced. Yes, Fox fucked up ....but, its no different when CNN reports lies or inaccuracies or won't admit thier errors ( Biden family BS -- Chris Cuomo etc crap ) or all the on and on Turdeau fiscals ...where are all the left winged lunatics then lol? Comparing Fox News, Breitbart or Newsmax with CNN, MSNBC or other networks is in my mind a false equivalency . Some of them adhere to journalistic rules the others don't. If that needs to be explained I give up on human kind .
Even if an organization follows journalistic rules they are bond to make mistakes but at least they retract or apologize about it and correct their reporting. Hint Fox and company do not unless it's at their advantage.
As for mistakes made in reporting ... people have to adopt a wait and see approach like it used to be in terms of news . Breaking news is a photo in time and from there the digging and research will shed light on new and more precise information . People these days want to know everything right now with the full story which is like asking for a full DNA match in minutes like CSI on tv... when everybody knows that it takes weeks on average. If new information changes their views they call the news organizations fake because of their lack of knowledge or their false expectations.
