Vengeance - A different take on shallowness, hooking up, families, stereotypes, media and politics. BJ Novak (The Office) wrote and stars. Funny for the most part. Felt it lost steam at the end, but still interesting.

My biggest chance to watch movies is when I'm on flights, lol! So recently:

Dune - STELLAR! I'd seen snippets on YT and was still blown away by everything within it. I could have watched it multiple times, wish I had seen it on IMAX. The acting, scenery, music/sound, all just amazing. Cannot wait for 2nd one (and more if they're done). I honestly wish it was 4-6 hrs longer to get into more and more background stuff and let the filmmakers' imaginations run wild. Definitely a huge Denis Villeneuve fan.

Dr Strange-Multivers - watched this one right after Dune, so that's a shock to the system, lol! MCU just rolls differently. But I'm an overall fan of these movies - just don't think too much, don't question "why doesn't character X doesn't use skill/ability Y to defeat enemy Z?" and you'll be fine! Cumberbatch is good fun to watch, but Benedict Wong is my favourite in this one.

Spiderman-No Way Home - like Multiverse, it was a low-brain/high-energy MCU offering. Still fun to see all the older characters. Never watched Garfield's Spiderman's but I can see why people loved him in the role.

I must admit that most of my movie watching is on flights as well. Saw the latest Bond movie on the flight and on the way back 'The Lost City', both of which were good in their own way. The Bond movie for intensity and Bullock movie for a couple of laughs (especially the Brad Pitt part :D).

The 2 best movies of the summer are:
Maverick: Top Gun
Bullet Train

Admittedly Maverick is a very beat for beat remake of Top Gun with a Star Wars trench run

Bullet Train is a Guy Richie type movie set in Japan on a Bullet Train with assasins and unifying thread bringing all the characters together. Some good surprise cameo too.

Funny - best movies I've seen in the theater have tapped into a 80's feeling when movies were fun and let you escape into the story.

Alex Honnold. Free Solo
Most amazing feat of human achievement on film. For me. Honnold is likeable guy. What was interesting to me was the energy drain his girlfriend had on him. She is a lovely girl, and they obviously make a lovely couple, but as other people remarked, he lost his warrior armor by having her around. Made him vulnerable. As his closest climbing buddy said, "he never slipped in 7 years and within six months of being with her he had two bad falls.
He also said that being warm and cozy is a detriment to achievement. He feels that life isn't about comfort. It is about performance. The true warrior existence is about striving for something with all your concentration.
Great guy. Amazing movie.

Black Adam - A few good ideas were introduced, but they did not expand and develop them. If they did it could have raised it up from being a generic average superhero blockbuster. Score 5/10, just my opinion. YMMV.
