I was printing last week with no problems.
Windows updated.
Now my printer doesn’t show up anywhere even though nothing has been disconnected. Add Printer Wizard can’t find my printer but it’s plugged in.
And HP has added some bullshit Jet Printer crap.
Ugh. I have work to do that can’t wait. Off to Walmart to buy a new printer fuk fuk fuk

Was it connected to the WiFi or were you using a cable? I had a similar issue, I can’t connect via Wifi anymore.
Also, try updating the printer drivers, as printer software is optimized for a certain OS, and when that has changes the printer may need catching up. There’s a good chance other people had this same issue with your model, try typing your exact printer model into google followed by “updated windows stopped working”.
Anyway, hope you have luck if you bought the new printer.

Does it show up under your devices delete it and retry? I assume you’ve already tried doing a hard reset.

Did you try updating your USB driver or swapping USB port on you computer?

Also try booting to BIOS and see if there are updates

Thanks everyone.
It still says “cannot detect” on install program but printer is working fine.

The problem started when I did a Windows update. Windows bundles a bunch of updates so you can’t see what exactly it’s doing. Last time I do that.

Win 10 - 11
Control Panel | Programs and Features
Top left "View installed updates"
The KB number (KBXXXXX) will tell you what the update was supposed to accomplish, which as we all know, does not always happen.
Searching for that number will tell what issues have presented themselves for others around the world.
There are usually instructions on how to uninstall the update or a work around.
If you want to hide the update, so as to avoid the update being re-installed, go here:
How to hide buggy updates on Windows 10
This works for Windows 11 as well

What you need to do is watch the printer scene from the movie office space. Great way to release anger and become one with life. You don't want to end up like Michael Douglas's character from the movie falling down do you? printers have been causing mental havoc, high blood pressure and heart attacks since the first printer was released to the public. Just think of all the shootings in America that could be printer related? You never know until it happens to you. Don't be that guy. Office space printer scene
