Usually a sharp “HEY!! Cut that shit out!” They know what they’re saying; the silent majority empowers it and their lapdogs further strengthen their belief it’s ok. It sometimes only takes one voice change what’s acceptable to many.
Why is it my responsibility? If they know what they’re saying, they shouldn’t say it. The voice should be another man, not mine.
That wasn’t OK to say and OP is in the right to feel the way she did.
As to “toxic masculinity“, that’s a bigoted term to me. It doesn’t mean anything and it’s a blank canvas for misandry. It doesn’t really bother me to hear it used, I just think less of the person saying it. I was at a group meeting once and another guy talked about how he learned about toxic masculinity and blah blah blah. When he was done, with his feminist rant, I said I’m the opposite of him and a toxic male. I drive a truck, I like hunting, I like motorbikes, I lift weights and I like watching fighting and I’m not going to apologize for it. Men and women are different and there is nothing wrong with men and women being different. Men don’t need to be defective females and women don’t need to be defective males.

None of those things are toxic masculinity. Toxic masculinity is spewing paragraphs about how you don’t like the term “toxic masculinity” on a thread about how a client joked about raping me.
