I am really happy to fill out all the paperwork every year.
Year one, fill out address and name of owner declare it your principle residence. oh yeah you have to keep filling it out year after year.
Year 2: same as year one, if you don't fill it out right away they send you an increased tax bill.
Year 3: Fill out the same info, but this year they want your Social Insurance Number, your email or phone number. They have my fucken address, send a letter and I'll pick my mail up in 3 months. They are just collecting information they do not fucking need. Fucking bureaucracies.

So what I am fucken livid about is that I have to fill it out for the government, I have lived in the same place for the last fucking 20 years.

And I have to do the fucken paperwork or else I get an increase tax bill......

Therefore I am voting shit head out of office next provincial election.

Less Paperwork, less hassel.

Also if home has multiple owners each person on title has to declare each year. Talk about waste of paper and time. Only should be needed to be done by one person notifying that the property is occupied.

This mandatory "declaration" to both provincial and municipal bureaucracies, is a harassment to home owners. It does absolutely nothing to cool down the property market. Real speculators just factor it in their cost, or find ways to circumvent it.

Its not the time it takes.

The first year it was simple, the second year I got an increased tax bill because I didn't declare on time. This year it was the increased amount of information that was required like SIN, an email address or phone number (really they are just trying to find more information about you)and the one that really pissed me off, did you fill out a tax return last year.

The problem was like any electronic form you have to put something in, or you can't complete your application. I mean why the fuck do they need my phone number or email address when they have my mailing address (you know the house address).
Nowadays if your applying for any app online, they want to connect you up to a phone number or email address, when there wasn't a requirement 7 or 10 years ago. Instagram, Facebook (or whatever they are calling themselve these days) are requiring a phone number to sign up.

Information gathering. ----------- Which they are not entitled to.

So this goes beyond just a simple 2 minutes of time to fill out a simple form.

I have to agree with 80 watts.

I don’t think anyone is feeling sorry for themselves, or “boo-hoo - woe is me.”

But I will say the administrative burden is getting more and more complex each year. With multiple names on the title and dealing with an estate, I spend prolly 3 hours quarterbacking the whole ordeal.

Think of it in terms of billable time. How much do you charge an hour for your time and how much of it is pissed away….

I agree with the intent of the tax but each year it gets more complex.

Meanwhile, on the DTES..
I’m empathetic to the DTES.

I’ve had a number of friends past and present die down there, so I just want to state for the record that I’m not some crass capitalist.

And while I acknowledge my privilege of being born in the First World, I also worked very hard for what I have and won’t make apologies for having a home in this city.

I think the intent of 80 watts ( and I don’t want to speak on his behalf as he is eminently capable) post is that government red tape often begets more red tape and I know of no one (socialist or capitalist) who wants more government in our corn flakes.

I was merely sharing my experience. and whether the poverty of the DTES exists or not, my experience is still my experience and does not in any way invalidate or condone the disaster of that Neighbourhood.

We all a little grumpy right now.

Between 2 years of Covid and protocols, a plague on the DTES, inflation, a psycho in Moscow, residential school death camps, it’s been a trying time. To not be grumpy is to not be human.

But as an antidote to all that here is something that may bring a smile to your face; Yusuf (formerly Cat Steven’s) making a call out to musicians around the world to cut a version of Peace Train in response to rasPUTIN. We are savages, but there is still hope….

Thank god for artists.

At least it worked, though. Home prices stopped going up. No?

Some people stop doing things that are pointless. Not the NDP.

More paperwork which the taxpayer is footing the bill. No wonder people are grumpy about this repetitive procedure.
