Why are men so aggressive in politics?

I’ve been following the “Perb American Election” thread - and after watching the shit-show in the US - this past week, it occurred to me that both enterprises are overwhelmingly male. While the sniping (and certainty of owning the truth) in both cases is at some level amusing, it’s also a little frightening. I know testosterone drives we males to do some crazy shit, and in politics it is taking us to the brink of extinction.

If I may offer a generalization for consideration: for men (Trump, Hawley, Cruz, Ford) the attraction to politics seems to be the aphrodisiac of power; while for women - Arden, Mantin (Finland), Fredriksen (Denmark) - their motivation seems to be more aligned with community-building. I realize there are many exceptions to what I just stated, but as far as generalizations go, I believe there to be some truth to it. If I’m voting, I will generally vote for the community-building camp.

So I ask, how can we get the destructiveness of our male selves out of politics?

good question and, on it's face it would seem simple: have governments run by middle-aged women, lol

My guess would be Politics and (for the most part) Sports are the last bastion of 'male-ness' and for the past 50+ years, we've been trying to legislate 'testosterone' out of society. Why do you think MMA and the like are so popular? I look at these as more 'release-valves' serving the pent-up and the rejected (100% generalization here)...there's been a power-shift and it's not in our favor.

Mother Nature has essentially set us up...as men, our prime directive is to propagate the species. For women, it's securing the highest-value genes (she can attract) so her children have the best chance. What do the men that women don't choose do? They can re-make themselves into what they think is desirable to women, they can throw-in the towel, or they can co-opt a position of power (perceived or otherwise).

Ask a few of your single female friends how the dating market is...my guess would be a long-string of 'there aren't any real men' or 'they're all pasty momma's boys'. We've been raised by single-moms, so I'm not sure what's expected.

It'll be interesting to see how the next few years unfold

Politics is about power. Those in positions of power want to pass on that power to someone that reminds them of themselves. This also applies at the corporate level.

In North America, the power structure is predominantly white male.
When a black male broke that barrier, it caused a huge backlash.

Go back in history I mean time immemorial and think of man in power as the theme.
Think of every institution designed to control the people, churches, militaries, governments, businesses, the land ...
The answer is that it has always been that way.
But .. I have a brother who is a futurist, a forecaster type, got into Bitcoin and the Blockchain at the beginning, follows shit I have no idea what it is. Calls this period of time the Fourth Turning. When the male in power theme gets altered. He has said it will lead to a Renewal and a period of Hope. More justice. And more women assuming power roles.
Well fuck if I argue with him, after all he bought Bitcoin at $20 a coin.

Men are so aggressive in politics because they are, well, ...men.

Whether promoting a PC liberal agenda, or clinging to a conservative meritocracy, it’s a polarized competition that we men participate in vigorously. And frankly, the political debates over time have brought out the best and worst of men.

As the OP notes, the recent political threads have overflowed with copious trollishness, and have also surfaced a few sparkles of insight. My conclusion would be that social media commentary inherently favours trollish behaviour in men.

Stronger rules of engagement for political discourse may help. We testosterone burdened men seem to do OK with the sports thing. Perhaps referees and slo-mo replays would help. But don’t make the game any longer!!!!

Dick measuring and privileged white males fear of losing their supposed "birth right" at the top of the pecking order. Time they are a changing.....no matter what the 1950's are gone.

Given the current global trajectory, white male privilege will likely be part of the history books. Non-white male privilege, that could take a while unless we see something significant happen.

I’m curious though. Is treatment of citizens and its woman in non-white male privilege-run countries greater than their counterparts?

The relative decline of white male priviledge ,will be accelerated by white males choosing not to propagate another generation of white males.after growing up,learning where statistics are at & what is to be expected from Canadian Family Law.
Going MGTOW is a growing alternative,to going to the plantation.
The archaic importance of propagating the white race,is not a concern in an over-populated planet reality of the present day & age.

Competitiveness of the global economy, enables priviledge within all races.
Racism is counter-productive in both local & global economies.
Smart money will not back the mistakes of the past,to the detriment of the future.

In the game of life;if you have been dealt a card of priviledge, then use it wisely,as a person of any race would do well to.
