The beautiful Fraser Valley !
It was very sad to hear the passing of Eddie on Tuesday !
Instead of mourning his Death, why not celebrate all of the pleasure, and enjoyment He's brought to our Lives !

I first discovered Eddie, and Van Halen while scouring the Record section of the local London Drugs in early 78' .
The Album cover intrigued Me enough to buy it on a whim .

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Halen_(album)
Imagine my surprise, and joy when I dropped the Needle on Side one, Song one .
The whole Album was full of great Songs, that turned Me into a Fan immediately !

I had the good fortune to see Van Halen on their first stop in Vancouver at the Coliseum later that year .
I can't remember who they were backing up, but, I certainly remember Van Halen performing a great Show ! ??

It's a tough call picking an all-time favorite Song .
But, I've still got a soft spot for "Ain't Talking About Love" from the DLR years . ( Still my favorites overall )

And from the Sammy years, that would be "Finish What You Started"

You've got 131 Song choices, and most of them are more than just Fluff !

Thanks for all of the enjoyment over the years Edward ! RIP

Mr Q.

P.S. There's a little irony that I was already celebrating Eddie's genius almost a month ago .

First and second concerts I ever went to. Sept ‘95 saw them at the Collisseum. So blown away travelled to Gorge @ George to see them 3 days later.

Man, so glad I got myself out to check out VH when they came to town in 2012. Dave was a shade of his former glory days (forgot lyrics a few times) , but Eddie? He still worked his magic on that guitar, truly a legend. I'm gonna cheat, can't choose one since VH had 2 leads and each took the band to success.
Fave Song in Roth era: Jump (might as well, right? Lol)
Fave Song in Hagar era: Love Walks In

RIP Eddie!

Good memories Mr Q!!

That concert in ‘78 at the Coliseum was, I’m pretty sure, Eddie Money and Van Halen. I was in my early teens and had to beg my parents for weeks to let me go and pay for my ticket, which I think was under $10.

Great, great memories!!

RIP EVH....

I was never into glam rock or hair bands, the music and the scene was just way too cheesy for me. I prefer progressive rock, alternative rock and new wave. So give me the Edge or Mark Knopfler over Eddie any day.

I went to Arizona State University (team name Sun Devils). Runnin' with the Devil was a popular tune at games and brings back fond memories.

I know I'll sound like a dick here, but you did read the title of the thread right? "CELEBRATING the life of Eddie Van Halen?" What you wasted your time in posting is actually a little disrespectful of an artist who obviously has fans who care enough about his life to start a thread like this. Give your head a shake bro.

Couldn't agree more. I thought his post was in very poor taste. This isn't a 'state your musical taste' thread. Like him or not Eddie is a legend and an icon who any modern guitarist will likely credit as one of their inspirations.

Grew up listening to Van Halen.. their music was the soundtrack of my high school years. So many good times and was fortunate to have seen them live at the Coliseum as the marquee act.
Eddie was definitely a talented soul...how in the world did he came up w Eruption? Still sounds damn good today imo.
RIP Eddie...you are one of the greats.

Seems David Crosby also felt 'meh' about Eddie. I am not a Tupac fan either, or is it also too soon to say that?

I'd have to say the eruption solo live. That right there is why I picked up a guitar and started learning.
