BC destinations you need to visit

Looking to hear from people regarding their favorite BC destinations. I have lived in BC for nine years and typically return to Ontario to visit family and friends.

This year due to Covid, I don't want to vacation there and now looking for a destination I can go to for ten days.

As I am a workaholic, I don't have many friends other than colleagues. So this will be a solo adventure.

I am an artist so I will take along some art supplies and a sketch pad so hope to find some inspiring locations. I am a bit of an explorer so will likely stop in at a few small museums along my way.

I will likely seek at least one companionship experience on the trip so that will be important too.

So please share your favorite destinations and tell me why?

? Sounds pretty damn pathetic that I am seeking travel advice from SP's and Pooners. But there are a few of you who I have enjoyed your opinions over the past 9 years.

Babine Lake up near Smithers. Lived there for a year. Beautiful lake, good fishing. Old BC feel to it. I think that the lake is 110 km long. The Fulton River salmon run used to be spectacular, don't know if it still is. Watch out for moose though! Hit one up in that country so be careful especially at dusk.

Barkerville can be fun. Fixed up old mining town near Quesnel. Maybe try some gold panning somewhere?

Finally, it is not a bad idea to visit the Yukon if you have the endurance to drive there. Pretty spectacular.

Not sure if it is open but the Burgess Shale museum in Golden is good. Some of the most important fossils ever found are from there. Stephen J Gould wrote a book about it.

If you like painting landscapes the west coast of Vancouver island has some stunning vistas along the sea, there are many roads leading to amazing places. Uculet, tofino, Bamfield, long beach with its big waves crashing onto the rocky outcrops very inspiring. Good Luck

Xatsull Heritage Village lookout on route to Quesnel (1hr drive from Quesnel)

Dugan Lake for fishing, by 150 Mile House

Barkerville is a really good place to go if you want some interesting things to draw. The guides are good too, telling interesting stories like shoot-ups in the saloons.

Good luck finding a Vancouver-quality hoe in the BC nether regions! I see the odd girl tours some of those areas so you might get lucky.

I have wanted to visit Barkerville for awhile now. I have been to the Yukon by air in the past and loved it there, so I have decided the Interior region is the place I want to explore.

Thank you all for the input! I will visit some of the other recommended places on another trip.

You can always stay at the brothel in Barkerville, it is now a hotel! ;)

Yeah Tofino and Ucluelet and the Pacific Rim National Forest Reserve are my go to locations in B.C. The beaches are spectacular with the waves rolling in. Hotels are pretty booked up through the next month at least though. Double check the BC Highways road report too, there's been construction delays along the road in.

Kamloops B.C.
Pavilion Lake....then North to Sheridan, you could spend a month painting on that highway....Then further North to Barkerville.
After Barkerville go back South into Big Bar lake area, or Dog Creek...and don’t hit any of my cattle on those dirt roads.

Thank you for the suggestion. I love Whistler too but I have been there a few times so the interior of BC is where I think that I will go.?
If you're heading for the Interior, then why not go via Whistler....damn sight better scenery then going through Sumas Prairie. Visit Pemberton and then head up the Duffy Lake Road to Lillooet and out through Pavilion and Cache Creek. If that's too tame go over the Highline road or through the Hurley and Carpenter Lake.
