Just to clarify in case some guys don't realize this; All Season and All Weather tires are not the same thing, not even close to the same thing.
There are basically 3 different tire stylesJust to clarify in case some guys don't realize this; All Season and All Weather tires are not the same thing, not even close to the same thing.
Other than studs it doesn't matter what tires you have if driving on black ice.IMO all seasons are great for regular Vancouver use, esp if you live in the non-snow prone neighbourhoods (e.g. Richmond). But if you live on the North Shore and have to make it down a slope every day, then a full set of winter tires is worth the investment. One black icy morning can really ruin your day.
That's not entirely true. Some tires have stuff like walnut shell or silicon or other materials to help grip ice even though they don't have studs. Also, the design of the tread with multiple saw tooth edges also helps with ice traction.Other than studs it doesn't matter what tires you have if driving on black ice.

Here is only one of the many tests out there.Braking distance on ice is increased by about 10 times. How much do you think these saw tooth edge tires would improve this? In the big picture on ice its not going to reduce stopping distance by much. Such tires help on snow but barely any improvement on ice.
KAL Tire has lost my business. They were always trying to sell me more parts than I needed and would play the safety cards lot. When I needed only 1 tire due to a flat, they tried to sell me 4. Never on time. Being a female, I get this often from mechanics but they are the worst.Costco has unbeatable service. Car is ready when they say it will be ready and they don't try to scam you.
I had a flat on my way to work and limped to a Kal Tire. Big mistake. Picked out a replacement, came back at agreed time. They hadn't even started, they hadn't got the tire off the rack yet. But they had looked at my air cleaner, to try and sell me a new one. Also wanted to change my oil, book a tune up etc.
KAL TIRE ARE SLEAZY ASSHOLES.
If you were driving an AWD it is recommended to replace all tires at the same time and not just buy one tire.KAL Tire has lost my business. Not only do we not shower after a session, we ride the same rubber!BLIZZAK TIRES.....never let me down...![]()
I have a 2019 Sierra 1500. Really hard to find a 2nd set of wheels for it since they changed the front brake callipers and older rims don’t clear them.I had all weather for the longest time, but got 4 winters for my ride a 4 years ago after going through the Coquihala during the winter with a friend on snow packed roads. He was riding winter tires and cruising along at 100 km. I could never do that on my all weathers with any degree of confidence. It was fthen that I decided to get the winters mounted on steelies. Good choice. A couple of years ago during a big snowstorm I was fine on fresh and packed and spent a good part of the day helping drivers either dig out, or get up slight grades I had no probs with. Out of curiosity I checked their tires and all the cars in trouble had either all season or all weather.
If they are a good shop they will try to find you a good used tire.If you were driving an AWD it is recommended to replace all tires at the same time and not just buy one tire.
I disagree. If they are a good shop they will try to find you a good used tire.
forgot about them Nokian WR3G yes very good for here. i hit the mountains a fair bit so no messing around.Got Nokian all-weathers, which for the Lower Mainland, is enough. If I lived in the Interior or had to go there a lot, I'd get proper winter tires.
I already technically have “all weather tires”.Got Nokian all-weathers, which for the Lower Mainland, is enough. If I lived in the Interior or had to go there a lot, I'd get proper winter tires.
