Seems like I am not getting texts from SP's every now and then. It has happened about four or five times now in last little while. As recently as yesterday.

I had texted an SP two three days earlier but didn't get any response. I texted her again yesterday, asking her rates etc and her response was "I already told you I don't want to see you." !!! Now, THAT was embarrassing! Not because she doesn't want to see me but because she must be thinking I am an idiot for texting her again. Well, C****a, I honestly didn't get your response the first time. So, my apologies, I am not the kind to bother ladies unnecessarily.

So, to me it seems like my messages do go thru, but some of SP's messages don't get thru to me!!

I have been using Speak Out phone without any hitch for last four years and never had an issue but it seems like it has been happening a bit too frequently recently. One SP said may be because she is using a texting app and I am using a regular phone.

Anyone else had the same issues?

Thanks

It’s likely the text apps. In the past I’ve allowed a few guys to use apps after initially booking through a real number. There’s several times I didn’t receive the messages they claimed to have sent. Just another reason why I avoid anything to do with text apps anymore.

When texts don't go through, it's WAY more likely the problem is on the sending side than on the receiving side. It can be tricky, e.g. Public Mobile had issues sending from certain cheap plans to certain mobile companies and not others (consistent issue, requiring support).

App numbers definitely can have issues with sending. I know SPs who stopped using app numbers because once in a while messages would not go through to anybody. No warning, the messages were shown as sent. It could start randomly and go for hours. Too costly an issue to run a business.

Having said that, I personally didn't receive a message to Speakout a few months ago. It was an app on their side, so I tend to believe the problem was there.

Yes, that's what it seems like. But funny thing is that one of the SP's whose messages I did not get is one of my ATF's and I have not had issues in the past.
In the second case, it was my first time seeing her and she did say it could be the app.
The third (above mentioned) case, is an SP who has appeared on the scene very recently and doesn't have any reviews yet. So I am not sure what she uses. I was going to TOFTT for a change, but alas! It was not meant to be, but I digress.

Like you said, is it really worth using App for SP's if it can cause confusion, misunderstanding, cancellations, and you know it can turn ugly before you can spell 'app'.

It is their 'call'.

That certainly helps to explain the events of what may have happened in another recently deleted thread. I just don't understand why any professional SP would rely on texting apps when it's been shown often that those apps are just not reliable. And, as has been noted many times, burner phones can be easily and anonymously acquired.

Could be that all texting apps are not created equal. I've never had a problem (that I'm aware of) with Text Now.

It may be kind of chintzy for SPs to rely on apps, but for johns who visit an SP a few times per year, it makes a lot of sense.

With the money you save, maybe you can finally afford that Greek you've been longing for . . .

I see it differently. Since I only get the opportunity a few times per year, I would hate to have one of my few opportunities messed up because an app didn't work as it should. When booking ahead, I use a burner.

Since Speakout uses the Rogers cell network, they had a major system glitch a few weeks ago. Think their still resolving the issues.

I hope that was the case because of the missed communications two of my appointments almost got cancelled. I lady confirmed it and then texted me asking for an etransfer or Amazon card. I never got the message, luckily the topic came up again and I took care of the deposit. Otherwise who knows, I might have missed a hot sizzling duo with Georgie and Azalea.

Is it this one perhaps if July 7 - 9 sound right, this is an article I found https://mobilesyrup.com/2019/07/07/rogers-bell-telus-freedom-mobile-experiencing-network-outages/
Offtopic: includes a tweet by Telus, who used this chance to show their panda's reaction to competitors' problems.

It says only voice services were affected. Shouldn't have impacted text or data.

It's hard to be sure with Speakout though. Users are not very vocal on the internet. The official support does not publish updates. There is an intermediary (Ztar Mobile) who provides the actual service by renting the traffic from Rogers; not much info from them either. It might be as reliable as Rogers, or not.

No, for me this issue happened much later than those dates (close to 20th of July and as recently as last week.) So I am not sure if the problem is still going on or not.

I've had the same issue for over a year. Using an older phone, and a Speakout sim card with pay as you go. Not completely sure if it's the network or the phone. Text messages will be sent, but can't receive texts sporadically. If I try calling or texting my burner using my own phone, the call will go straight to voicemail or the text won't go through. I'll have to turn the phone off and back on, then usually all of the "missed" text messages will come through to the burner all at once. Sometimes I'll send myself a text after turning it back on, and force all of the missed texts through to the burner, which seems to expedite the process. How I handle it is when I'm expecting a text back, I'll send myself a test text to make sure the burner is receiving ok. Definitely a pain in the ass.

Hey T8E, forgot to ask you what speakout support say about your issue.
A possible solution option is to buy a new speakout sim card???

Yea, that's exactly what I have been facing. Although I never thought of turning it on and off, but then how could I when I don't even know she is texting me!

I never called the support. I don't think it is the sim card or the phone.
