Just wondering if anyone has experienced any delays in crossing the border at peace arch now that the US is on shutdown? I’m just wanting to know if I need to allow much extra time on my travel time. Thanks.

I have not ventured into the Excited States, and do not intend to do so, as long as the White House remains in Russian control.

Well said. I used to go down there at least once a month. But since Trump got in, I have not gone once.

Just wondering if anyone has seen any analysis of the number of Canadians going to the US (or not) as a result of the mad political situation? Anecdotally I have heard of many snowbirds who are not going and also have heard that people are staying home in the summer as well. Just curious as to the impact of this on American border community economies.

Customs/ICE staff at the border are required to work but not getting paid.
I don’t blame them if they are cranky.
Trump is an asshole for treating people like shit.

Travel by Canadians is way down.

I travel on biz to the US but try not to if at all possible. I've been a NEXUS traveller since its inception and still get sent to secondary. Zero problems on my end and I am always polite to the INS. They just take their new extra powers too far IMO. I'm a regular 420 user and don't want to get caught in a lie. So far they haven't asked me about pot, just my biz interests.

A friend of mine is a Snowbird and his wife won't go South now. He benefits by playing more golf and if he wants a second beer, there are no dagger stares lol :p

I used to go to US to fill up one car and bring a can full of gas for my other vehicle on weekly basis. Not just that visiting Bellingham was twice or a three times a year routine for us. We just don't do it anymore.

A co-worker of mine of non white descent was pulled over for secondary investigation. He was told that the computers chose them 'randomly'. Guess what, the huge secondary room was full of 'randomly chosen' people. According to him, there was no 'white person' in there being questioned.

Sorry people of Bellingham and Blaine, but you (or was it Russia?!) are the ones who put this mad man in White House, now face the music. I guess a few more gas stations in these two towns will be folding there tents soon, if they haven't done it already.

I think it is better to build bridges than walls.

So is now a good time to tell you your name is submitted to Homeland Security if you even fly over the USA

Since the shut down, I have crossed 4 times. One land crossing non Nexus. One land with Nexus. Two air with Nexus. No problems or apparent slowdown.

We actually have a Marine crossing in the Prairies. I have used that crossing more than any other.

The one and only time I have ever been directed to secondary was when I came into YYZ and I was very, very over my exemption. I showed them the article and receipt and I was sent on my way. No duty, no tax.

When you decide to go, PM me ..... I'll let you know the Resort I stay at.
There are some beautiful places, and there are a few dumps to avoid.

I believe you may still overfly the US, providing you are not on a terrorist watch list.

I work in the US from time to time and am currently working there now. I left on January 10th and it was probably the quickest and pain free customs crossings I have ever done.

Went down last week Tuesday AM. No lineup...virtually waved through by a smiling friendly customs agent.

I'm just going to pretend I didn't see this and plead ignorance lol. Luckily I don't think it would be a problem unless we have plane trouble and had to land unexpectedly in US. My worst nightmare.

You wouldn't see the beach for three days.....fortunately I usually get a room that is twenty steps away from the Lobby....and the main Bar.
As far as trouble, if your with me, you don't even have to look for it....it tends too follow me around.
