Is it just me, or does it seem our selection of reputable indies is dwindling?

We are being pushed out of Victoria by increasing costs of living and increasing rates of new hobbyists strictly only interested in finding the cheapest rates in town. So we either have to lower standards or go where we are treated with more respect. Sad but true. Victoria was once a great place to be an SP but those times are gone imho. It's only really worth coming to town to see long time regulars while weeding through the, "Whats your cheapest rate?" texts. In Victoria I was dealing with no shows/cancellations 50% of the time while in Vancouver no shows are so far non-existant and cancellations are few and far in between.
So just remember, every time you ask for a discount you are making an SP one step closer to wanting to leave the city, because this isn't something we have to deal with elsewhere.
For those of you in Victoria who are still treating women well, thank you, because you are a needle in a haystack and we would go crazy without you!
This isn't a hating on Victoria post, just a heads up to why we are leaving so maybe one day Victoria can go back to the good ol days![]()
I think what’s missing from this discussion is acknowledgment that SP rates have gone up across the board over the last six months to a year. I can’t be the only one who’s noticed that booking, either at an agency or with an Indy, has gotten more expensive lately, right?
I’m not defending people nickel and diming and certainly don’t do it myself but when rates go up in any industry you’re inevitably going to get complaints and people trying to pay the old price. When people get used to the new rates I think a lot of the bad behaviour will go away.
The only agency that has raised their rates lately is CCE, and they were the cheapest one out of the four agencies in town.I think what’s missing from this discussion is acknowledgment that SP rates have gone up across the board over the last six months to a year. It's not just in this world, I see it all the time where I work and hear similar stories all the time. There seems to be a wave of "it's all about me" generation coming up that is pulling along some outliers from other generations looking for a shorter trip to the top (many of who would probably align with the little orange munchkin to the south). It's very frustrating for the rest of us as well.I get what you are saying. It's not the rates and guys asking for discounts as much as it is just the high level of negativity and fake bookings you have to deal with on a daily basis in Victoria. When it is just bad behaivor and negative interactions, I am not sure why it has gotten so bad in Victoria but not everywhere else?
Svips raised their rates as well - a 1/2 hour is now $180.The only agency that has raised their rates lately is CCE, and they were the cheapest one out of the four agencies in town.
Another one for my bucket list.... Never done it on a bus before. LOLGreat idea....we can rent a bus for the day.
