from what I can tell, Shaw (freedom mobile) is offering all the iphone models for $0 on a 2 yr plan...

Just wondering if the Networks are subsidizing this phone yet?

Also was there decent selection of cases available?

Apple's price for unlocked is C$1500+. I've read in the trade papers that sales for X have been sluggish and rebates may be available 'soon'.

I'm still trying to get my head around a phone costing the same as a notebook.
Networks no longer subsidize phones. You must upgrade your 2 year plan so you end up paying for the phone over 2 years, then in perpetuity as you have to upgrade your plan again in 2 years.

The best place to buy an Android phone if you are able to begin a new contract is Costco. They have amazing deals!!!

At the end of March 2017, I bought a brand new LG G5 (very happy with it) at Costco. I got the phone for $20. They gave me an additional $250 in Costco gift certificates. They gave me a device for my car to use phone hands free for $5 and the best Otter Box case $ can buy for the phone for another $5. I went with a the Fido +15 plan which is very competitive compared to other service providers.

I expect that as soon as the LG G7 is released (this month or next), a very similar deal for the LG G6 will become available. The deal I described above was a end of quarter deal, but their regular deals are almost as good. But if you can wait until the end of the quarter (either end of March or end of June at latest), the LG G6 is a very good phone ...

BTW, you do not need to be a Costco member - just get a friend that is a member to take you to the store.

That sounds very good.

Question, how is your experience with Fido. A bunch of people I know went to and then left Fido because of network issues.

I have had no issues with Fido and I have been with them for several years now. They use the same network as Rogers. But I believe that Costco has a very similar deal to the one I described above, but for Virgin instead. I believe Virgin is on the Telus network here in BC. Also, Virgin, at the moment, has an option which will get you a total of 6GB of data a month (for extra $ of course, but probably best deal out there other than maybe Freedom). Far more data than I need, but I know there are some heavy data users out there.

BTW, I think that Costco allows you to go with any of the wireless networks other than Freedom. It's just that I believe the best deals by far are with Fido and Virgin.
