Doing a quick look through some ads today and noticed $400 and $450 /hr. I guess it's that time of year to adjust for cost of living.

The prices have gone up by $50/ hr on an average in last three and a half years ago when I started this hobby.
In downtown, expect to pay at least 300 for a younger sp with good reputation (or no or bad reputation in some cases). In surrounding areas it is between 250-300 now a days.
Personally speaking, I have decided to cut it down quantity wise as well as price wise. Time to make a new list with SP's below 300 and if nothing else, I would try to do shorter (45 min) sessions.
It sure ain't cheap to poon.

It's all about figuring out how much the experience is worth to you.
I jumped on the bandwagon when the Jets came back to Winnipeg and was shelling out over $3000 a year for season tickets, which combined with expenses at a game really ended up being closer to $5000. For those 5 years that was my main source of entertainment during the Winter months.
Now I've taken that budget and moved it over to a different hobby/form of entertainment which can allow me to see 2-3 ladies a month depending on length of visit during the hockey season.
For $300/hour I agree with take8easy that I would expect an experienced and top notch SP, no different than spending $180/ticket for an NHL game as opposed to watching my nephew's Junior B team...same sport, but is there really a comparison?

The kinds of rates that guys are ranting about are the sorts of rates I heard women asking for in the Penthouse back in the eighties. I don't know how many guys actually paid that much back then, but $500 for an hour was a pretty standard asking price at the start of negotiations.
I have the impression that average SP rates have stated pretty flat in dollar terms for decades. Accounting for inflation, average rates are lower than they were in the eighties.

True enough. But when you buy the Jets tickets you know the caliber of the players and the game compared to the Junior B. In this hobby there is little relation between cost and caliber. There is crap out there at the $500 /hr range and hidden treasures that are still under $200/hr.
I remember when I used to hunt around for gas at $.47 a liter, guess showing my age a little. That's a 150% increase to current prices. Flip side, I think I pay less now for a car than I did 20 or 30 yrs ago for a comparable car taking into account average earnings now to then.
I remember my father talking about his first car he ever bought new. It was 1.5 yrs of 100% of his salary. $5,000 new back then. Made about $3,500 a year.
Somethings go up, some go down and some stay about the same. I myself don't see increases anything more than average cost of living. Difference is seems like the prices stay the same for a longer duration then make a spike when the market can handle it. It would be weird for ladies to say their prices are increasing 2.11% for 2018 from $250 hour to 255.28. More likely you would see an increase to 275 after 5 years.
Some ladies increase there price as demand increases or they want to limit their bookings or combination of both.

It's about time rates went up, there is a lot of work involved in dating nevermind having so many dates a week.. You hear about girlfriends talking about having to shave thier upper thighs for "date night". You have to consider all of it not just about us spreading our legs.... that's the fun part!!!
It is all about your budget, your frame of reference and the perceived value of the item/service.

I have friends who think nothing of dropping $70,000.00 on a vehicle which I think is nuts. My sister just renovated her kitchen and her husband was telling me that she spent $12,000.00 on a light fixture.
But then again their combined income is probably close to $350k/year so for them $12K is like $500 to someone else.
The OP sounds like for him, the value in seeing an SP vs going back to regular dating is not worth the $$. And that's fine.
For me I still value my regular visits with my current lady becasue she gives me what I need and more, without the "strings", allowing me to carry on with my life just the way I like it.
But yes there are limits based on my personal values and income.

I must also add that I feel that we should not blame ladies for asking for and charging, which one might consider, more. As long as there is someone willing to pay, they will ask.

Truer words have never been spoken! Though to be honest: porn never does (never will, for me) match what a great woman can provide (else why would anyone be here? lol!)
And sometimes that's what I think about as I think about meeting someone: "Do I have the $$ to throw away for 60min of fun? Do I have the 2+ hrs (including traffic)?" vs 10-15min on porn, given that the experience in the end may NOT be fun and/or I might make a mistake that's costly.
$200-300 gets new parts for other hobbies, a few days on the mountain, etc. I've scaled back as well so seeing someone is more of a splurge/treat, definitely not something I can justify every week (oh, for simpler times!).

It's all relative. I admit, I am somewhat of a budget pooner, as I have to save up for my adventures( or regular dates ). This does not mean that I seek cheaper alternatives, rather that I am limited as to the number of adventures in which I may partake. Far more of my money goes towards my hobby, which is building( ridiculous ) cars. Recently had a faulty turbo blow on a fresh build, set me back over 5k, which puts a damper on things until I get the money back from the manufacturer, which is always a fight. But I digress, my point is, everything is worth whatever you perceive its worth to be. I, personally, find one to one and a half hours, with a provider, is about the same cost as my average dinner date( I love fine dining ), without the messy complications.
When rates get high, I slow down or stop seeing SPs entirely.
There is a price limit for me of what the experience is worth.
In this way, I end up spending less when prices are high than when they are low.
I would be in trouble if I could see quality SPs for 100 an hour.

Now, I tend to wait a bit and see SP's I want to spend time with and plan accordingly.
A few I seen have raised their rates about 30% since I first started seeing them. I didn't consider asking for a grandfathered rate because they really made me happy. I faced a choice, do I seek out someone lower priced or do I Poon a bit less so I can see SP I already have a great connection with?
Seemed a simple decision for me.

That's like choosing between investing in stocks or in bonds.
Both choices are wrong. Usually it's best to mix it up, just need to figure out the right proportion.
