WTF ! Kim Campbell - Sleeveless dresses 'demeaning' for TV broadcasters?

If the male anchors are expected to wear suits, why should their female counterparts not be expected to similarly wear business attire?

That was basically Campbell's point - to play the part of a serious individual you should dress that way. How many female executives do you see wearing sleeveless dresses? Probably some, but not a lot. For the simple reason that bare arms makes you look more casual and less serious.

and I guess it is ok for a (then) Min Of Justice to appear bare shouldered hiding behind robe?

What is or is not business attire can always be up for debate. To me, reading news has a serious side to it, but if a news anchor, weather girl (Yvonne Schelle) or traffic reporter (Kaitlin Herbst) wants to show her bare arms.... I have no problems. Although I do feel K. Herbst can use some toning on her arms. Beautiful girl though... she sure makes my breakfast more enjoyable.

Just saying, you will be taken less seriously if you are not dressed to a certain spec. Some are willing to give women a pass on this because presumably they think that women should not be take as seriously as their male counterparts perhaps? Showing skin is an expression of sexuality in our culture, which might be acceptable in many social circumstances, but not in professional situations. There is a distinction. If women are to be treated like men professionally, they should be judged by the same standards. There is not one standard for men and some lesser standard for women just because they are women.

......and if she didn't there are other choices for getting your traffic updates......I'm sure most of the on air types realize that eye appeal plays a large role in their success or failure as the case may be....
