Golden Globes Sanctimony

I barely watched the Golden Globes, but the parts I caught were all about women enpowerment, mocking men and probably getting Oprah to run for president.

The self-congratulatory sanctimony was nauseating. These are people who use their power and influence every day to earn millions, and manipulate the public for their own benefit.

And every year they pick a subject to focus on, after they've forgotten the previous year's cause.

Remember, these are the brilliant minds who care so much they inflicted upon the public The Emoji Movie, Sausage Party, Naked, The House, Fifty Shades of Grey/Fifty ShadesDarker, Kidnap, and endless, mindless violence like Fist Fight and comic book adaptations.

For every Tom Hanks or Spelberg, there are thousands milking the public and pretending. Many were in that audience hoping they don't have the light shined on them. After all, it's what they do for a living.

I only listened to Seth Myers in hope he may be a bit cutting edge like the times Ricky Gervais made everyone equally uncomfortable to laugh; but did after a few drinks anyway. Those were the days when PC jokes rarely were told on the Golden Globes.

Blame it on "The Gipper" Ronald Reagan for this folly of going to the White House as a famous person who had the right sound bites with little substance. Same with #45, only as good as his latest Tweet.

Next up Oprah? Maybe? Americans love their famous people more than someone who is qualified for the job. Ideally someone who has experience and a collaborative mentality will emerge to actually lead and unite.

I dont watch any "awards shows" be it golden globes/emi/oscar's etc as I just dont give a rats ass about a pack of over paid people who go to a private party to pat themselves on the back and moreso these days act as SJW's whose fans just eat it up like being spoon fed as a baby. These people are actors and nothing more. They do not guide my moral compass nor change my view on the world or society......sadly though there are so many brain dead idiots in the world that place these people on a pedestal and worship them.

I rarely agree with you on much, SR. But, on this, you are on the mark!
Stop the presses! I, too, agree with sr's observations!
What I said was a double bullseye(hit a bullseye with a dart and sink another dart into the back of the first one) and it is justified. These people are total hypocrites with legions of brain dead sychophantic followers who literally worship them yet those same zealots dont get it that the "celebrities" they worship could not give a rats ass about them in reality....as in down to the brass tacks of life.

Best example I can think of is the enviro hypocrite Leonard Dicaprio.....such a crusader for the environment and he cares so much about climate change because he experienced a "chinook" in Alberta whilst filming The Revenant and figured that was real "climate change" so he gets up on the soap box whenever he can to crusade for "saving the planet from climate change" .....yet it is perfectly OK for him to fly around the world on his private jet...or rent a yacht to watch the FIFA championship game and so on and so forth. He will preach and preach about something he knows nothing about whilst advocating for Socialist Western governments to advance their agenda for climate change which of course includes Carbon Taxes because it wont affect HIM as he will just continue his lifestyle of "do as I say not as I do".

And with regards to all of the hyped awards shows......do any of the common people get in the door? Not a single one.....they are fancy parties for singers/actors etc to have a fun night out and maybe get a trophy....definatly get some SWAG....get a lot of attention and also get the opportunity to mouth off about something that seems important to them.

I would rather watch paint dry on the wall than watch any "awards show"

The ironic thing about "those" people is.....if they have nothing to say, or do nothing that gets talked about....they get forgotten.
There are some exceptions like Paul Newman,Redford and a few others, that have a little class, and use their influence and money for a greater good.
Then of course there are the rest of them............................

Not all movies have to be Schindler's List, not all movies have to have deep meaning, sometimes you just want to suspend disbelief and watch an over the top action flick.

Oh, and I thought Sausage party was one of the funniest cartoons I've seen in a long time.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
While this did not occur at the Golden Globes it did occur in the aftermath and I thought it kind of ridiculous.
Apparently Ivanka Trump tweeted something acknowledging Oprah's speech and almost immediately several celebrities piled on, tweeting some rather uncomplimentary things to her.
I guess it is okay for them to bully her over the sins of her father.
Seems rather hypocritical.

So a group of people in a common industry that provides entertainment to the masses indulges in a self-congratulatory awards event and broadcasts it to the very people that ultimately enjoy and support the work that these people do...and then maybe speak out for/against a given current event.......OMG- line them up against the wall!
Like anything, if you don't like it then don't participate or watch.
And hypocrisy is not reserved for the celebrities of the world- they are just the easy targets because they put themselves out there.
We don't have to agree with the views or position of Di Caprio- or anyone else for that matter.
And Oprah may drive us wild on any number of levels- but she's doing something right to have achieved her success and garner the accolades and appreciation of millions- whether they be other higher profiles or just regular folk.
Celebs just happen to have a taller platform than the great unwashed.
BFD.
In the words of the immortal Barrie Dunn "That's the way she goes, boys.....that's the fucking way she goes."

Well now DD.....I've worked security for more than a few of them.
What you see, and hear them say, isn't what you get when you spend a little time with them.....trust me on that one.
But just like any other group of people...there are the exceptions.

Syb buddy.
I've worked security for more entertainers (mostly musicians, but a fair whack of others in the industry) than I can count.
I get that many are real flakes, insecure, needy in most regards, quite self centered, somewhat cynical, catty, undependable and seriously emotionally retarded.
But so what? Let 'em frolic and cavort and feed off themselves as they see fit. Party on in the House of Mirrors!
We don't need to buy into their BS.
And so as not to paint all with the same brush- I've met some seriously devoted and genuine people in the industry- some that are/were very good friends.
RIP Brian MacLeod. You are missed......

Which is what I said in my first post.
I've met some very classy, well mannered humble people......and I've met some total basket cases.
When they started using their security as a weapon, is when they stood alone.
That was the reason I didn't last.....when a certain action hero actor figures he's got an ex military, trained badass at his disposal to clean up his fight he's started with his drugged up actions......and that security person, who has way to much cowboy in him, and believes in a fair word and a fair fight, turns his back on him, so he can back his shit up without using his body double, or stunt man....or hired muscle.
Some of it was a blast, some of it was a shit show.....and my demeanour meant I didn't last long, as I was good at my job, but not a team player.
But.... my very experienced friend DD....whom I happen to respect a great deal ,as I know some of your background ,as you know some of mine.....I will agree with you....the few good ones, did outshine and blind the bad.
I made a few lifelong friends as well....

Agreed on all points.
I didn't want to bring up the scenario that you've mentioned regarding "cleaning up" some entitled little punk's actions, but I've been there too.
Late 80's, Vancouver based popular cop show, young actors/actresses living the life in local clubs and bombing around the city in their YJ.
Yup- I know exactly where you are coming from, buddy. But unlike you, I never turned my back on "him" and made him wash his own dishes. At the same time I also stood for others that were not direct witness to singular events, but would be impacted by a perceived non-committal attitude towards swift and direct intervention, and there was a greater good that needed to be addressed.
And that is said with absolutely NO judgement towards your course of action, involvement or decisions. Circumstance dictates engagement.
It wasn't easy though.
And it never was, being "the guy" in the room.

The greater good ALWAYS should be addressed.....I'm not a mountain of a man like some, which is why when people meet me, and have heard about me, or have a mental image, like some around here....they usually say " I thought you'd be bigger"
I am at a quiet and peaceful time in my life, and will walk a mile around someone to avoid conflict, yet I do remember with absolute clarity, when backed into a corner, and circumstance left me with no choice, the look on the other guys face, when they realise they've just stepped into the Gladiators ring, and the Romans just released a Bear for them to fight.
I have a few broad grey streaks in my hair ,from past scars....and yeah they seem to be migrating....which is why they called me " the Silver Back" ...both because of my look, and my disposition.
