I really like yogurt especially the plain 2% Greek style. It's great with fruit, cooking and alone. I used to get the gears for buying it and was told I should be getting the 0% fat type. Turned out the 0% is loaded in sugar.

A bit of fat is required by the body while as you say the sugars and carbs are not so good. The exception being healthy carbs like fruit and vegetables.

What yah mean?......Bacon has its own food group.
How could a slice of pork taken from the belly area when the animal is at its peak indexing of fat to meat ratio....deep fried in its own fat till almost black ,be bad for you?

High fat diets work better when you have low carb diets. Your body will go into ketosis and covert fat into energy instead of relying on carbs for energy.

And that's the problem when media summarizies complex scientific studies into little packets. In general, I don't believe he media does this on purpose, maybe they underestimate the general intlelligence of the readership or write to the lowest form.

In this case, there's an association between mortality and higher carb intakes and lower fat intakes. One can't pull up the paper without paying $31. Kinda annoying since the research institute is part of McMaster- isn't that predominantly govt funded? The research most likely is; otherwise, one needs to look at the research sponsors and question the results.

Anyway,it also focuses on NA and Europe, which states a over abundance of calories (words to that effect). IOW: fat people. No comment is made if the mortalities were considered overweight.

Bottom line: take this with a grain of salt and bacon :). Balanced diet, exercise, non-sugary fluids. No need for a study to tell us this is a healthier way to live.

More interesting are the studies on gut bacteria and the effect it has on health, life, motivation, etc. Almost sci-fi stuff!

(For the record, I LOVE bacon!)

MMMMM I had some amazing side bacon yesterday. Wish I had more. Penguin Meats in White Rock. It was outstanding. In an effort to return to the 2015-era Erica (long lean & lithe) I am giving up sugar & carbs! And Starbucks.

Wine isn't a carb, is it? Can't be. It's a LIQUID! Duh....
