Is anybody going to this show? I'm pretty excited as it's been 20 years since I last saw them (Lollapalooza '97 at Canada's Wonderland). I hope they still sound good, considering they haven't release an album in 11 years.

How are concerts at Rogers Arena in general? I went to Tom Petty a few years back, the opening act sounded great, he sounded like shit! Think their amplifiers were blasted too loud or maybe he just wasn't good.

The sound at Rogers is amazing. If Petty's sound wasn't right, it's not the arena. I have seen a number of really diverse performances there (Shania, Leahy, Il Divo, & yes, Neil Diamond! :D) & always been impressed with the sound.

Generally speaking Rogers is a great venue sound wise and also from a view of the stage aspect. I wouldn't hesitate going there but probably won't go to BC Place again for music.

Haha, I went to see Petty last time he was here and you are right, they sounded like shit. It wasn't the Amps or Subs; they sucked musically that night. I've seen the Heartbreakers 3x and the first two were awesome. High energy full value show. They are reputed to be heavy pot smokers and I reckon our local Indica knocked them on their asses.

Opening act was Steve Winwood and again I agree he was awesome. I've also seen Steve Winwood at the Orpheum and that venue is perfect acoustically speaking.

Totally agree on the Orpheum. I'm a big audiophile. While the Vogue theatre could use some updating to its seating, it's got a nice warm live sound too. I won't go see ANYTHIN/ANYONE at the QE because the sound is so bad.

Steve Winwood that's who that was! They were awesome! I will have to look up his music.

The tickets were given to us and seeing as we were not intoxicated enough to enjoy the noise, we probably left halfway through Petty's set. Like you said they were probably rocked by the local indica.

Im going to GNR at BC Place in September. I heard they sounded like crap at The Skydome (I will always call it that) in Toronto, but yet I heard they rocked it at a venue in Adelaide, Australia. I won't have my hopes up for that ahhhh!!!

Yah Steve Winwood is a very talented guy whether singing, playing Hammond Organ, piano or guitars. Clapton invited him to one of his Guitar festivals and he was one of the highlights for me.

BC Place is a weird place sound wise. U2 360 Tour the sound was great but the last Joshua Tree concert really sucked. Roger Waters and Paul McCartney's sound was quite good but the Stones last appearance was not very good at all. I'm not a sound engineer but can say some groups have a very good crew setting things up and others don't. It's very hit or miss in the dome. That's why I passed on AC DC and GNR.

That's weird, changing sound quality.

Very inconsistent to say the least. Years ago they had the Three Tenors and a full orchestra play there. With extra roof baffling, the sound was decent. Not great but decent.

I think U2's Joshua Tree concert was from a lack of speakers and amplification. The sound was very tinny. With Roger Waters and Paul McCartney it was a whole wall of speakers plus extra pods on the stadium floor. Total immersion in sound.

I hope GNR brings a good sound crew

Yep, will be there with 'a date' and looking forward to it, Tool have been on my bucket list for some time!

I personally think the acoustics at Rogers are crappy, particularly if you are at the back and/or high up in the nose bleeds but fortunately we have seats down the front...

BD
I'm down on the floor as well fortunately..

You won't be disappointed (especially if they include 'Flood' in one of their sets...transcendent)
2 Albums have come out since I last saw them. Hoping to hear something like " Flood" or "Jerk off". I have Opiate on right now. My favourite is still Aenima, maybe cause I tripped out the most to it back in grade 9

Spend some 'quality-time' with Lateralus...I was ambivalent at first, but recognized the depth of talent/writing/theme after I stopped expecting an Aenima reprisal.

I did manage to spend some quality time listening to Lateralus when it came out. You are correct, it is a fantastic album! The only album I haven't thoroughly listened to over and over is 10,000 days, I should listen to it now.

BD
Good set! Nothing from Undertow though :(

I'm definitely going. Been a big fan since they released their first EP Opiate back in 1992. This will be my fourth time seeing them and i'm sure they'll deliver a fantastic show as always.

The shows that I've seen at Rogers Arena have always sounded great. The last time bands that have played there like AC/DC, Metallica and Tool have sounded so good.

Don't forget to bring ear plugs..... it's going to be loud.

Ive seen them twice at Rogers over the past 10 years. They sounded amazing, the venue is great and although it's been a few years since I last saw them, I'm sure my man Maynard is still killin it. He actually has a fairly 'clean' voice that will stand the test of rock God time. Awww I wish I was going now! Have fun!
