I am hoping some one can tell me how to use the search function for short terms, ie. less than 4 characters, on this forum.

Thanks.

I had the same question when I started here. Now I usually add another word. e.g. to search for Via, I type in Lady Via instead or to search for Tia, you could type Tia girl.

Good Luck

Thanks T8E.

I have seen a work around on this somewhere. IIRC it involved the use of additional characters that still allowed a return for the root word.

There was a workaround on this board years ago. It stopped working after some kind of software update or server move.

I think short words are completely ignored, T8E's method would produce same results as searching for 'lady' or 'girl'.

Sometimes Google search helps. Search for "tia site:.perb.cc"
However Google won't see the pages that require a PERB login. Most of recent reviews won't be found. You can still search for the Lounge posts, for example.

Advanced search by tags works for short words too, but only if somebody was kind enough to tag that thread that way. Completely manual and requires community effort.

Thanks Felix.

I have used the work around on here before, I just can't remember how I did it.

I use tags on threads when ever I think of it, they are very useful for searching.

Very simple - type the three letters followed by underscore, e.g. to search for "ivy", type "ivy_" (obviously without the quotation marks.

Thanks Avery.

That is the method I have used as well. As an example, I'm trying to search for Amy (Daniela) in the YWG forum. There are several threads with Amy in them but wont return her name in the search until you search Daniela. Ladies should never use names less than three letters.

Edit. Sorry. Ladies should never use names less than four letters.

This used to help years ago, not anymore. It only detects the literal match to what you typed, i.e. if the thread contains that word with the underscore.

Yes. It's not an obvious thought, though. The name should be also unique enough. Otherwise there's still an uncertainty which London or which Chloe it is. If they have a phone#, that may be an easier search.
