I am American who will be in Vancouver in a few weeks for vacation. I assume the local sp will not appreciate calling a U.S. cell number so I will need to get another phone (as I have US "hobby" phone). I don't want to commit the same mistake as Tiger did. Any suggestions on cheap easy to get pay as you go phone or sim card.
Thanks for your help.

I have been using the same one for about a year and a half. Works perfectly.
I've had few problems with mine, it does what I need it to do - except for a sometimes annoying tendency of the phone to make it difficult to controls its functions. Sometimes it automatically dial someone for a voice call when I press the wrong thing on the screen (I've done that to at least one SP by mistake.) Also it seems to make it difficult to answer voice calls too - SP's have called, and I find it hard to get the damn thing to actually answer - the on-scrren answer button disappears, so I miss the call and then have to call or text them !

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I guess there is no google voice in Canada and I assume the SP would not trust a google US phone number.

nope do not use google voice, you're better off using your real US # and telling them you're visiting instead. When sp looks up a # they would like to see a real mobile carrier instead of an internet signal. Even if it is from the USA...however a lot of girls don't know this trick and will ignore all out of town numbers, and there are some girls who will answer to any number...it all depends on the girl herself/handler.

At 7-11, you can get a $39 phone and a $10 SIM card.

I third it on Speakout wireless ...good rates and your balance has 1 year expiry date on any $ amount voucher.

If your US hobby phone is unlocked then you just need to buy $10 sim card and $25 voucher.

burner app on iphone works great. $6 a month. local phone number can be selected. downside is that it's voip on your bandwidth.

app is locked on the phone independently. and it's own database of calls and text messaging is locked within the app. if you wind up with a stalker .. junk the number and start a new one or alternatively you can have multiple lines for various countries or parts of the country.

actually, if you purchase a new voucher before the year is up, they roll over the remaining amount from the previous year into the new voucher
