Reza Moazami has been sentenced to 23 years behind bars, but, according to Global BC, he will receive credit for time served. That brings his time in jail down to about 17 years. Moazami is responsible for luring young girls into prostitution. At the time of the offences, nine of the girls were underage.

This was my favourite part of the article "He was found guilty of a human trafficking charge, which Crown says is very rare."

What is very rare, human trafficking or going to jail on a human trafficking charge?

the good news is that he will be viewed as a sexual predator against children and consequrntly be treated as the lowest of the low.....ironically for him he is going to be somebody's' bitch soon enough :clap2: :pound: :clap2:
Ya he'll get checked in quick and end up in PC. Problem is there's Mountain institution where most skinners etc go and have a little easier. So F'd up how teens even encounter a piece of shit like that. You have to do at least 1/3rd before you can go for parole now, with the nature of his crime he'll most likely do 2/3rds

CBC article says he is the first person ever convicted of human trafficking in BC. That is surprising.
Surely there have been other people involved in his operation.
Here's hoping he gets a rough ride for the next several years. Beating up teenage girls is one thing, beating up hardcore gangbangers is another.

as long as he's in the general prison population, I'm ok with it. With any luck, he won't make it out unscathed.

It's rare for a conviction. It's super tough for the Crown to gather all of the evidence needed to prove that offence beyond a reasonable doubt.

How likely is it that a lot of the women at AMP's were lured while underaged into prostitution. There's a bit of irony to the comments posted here.

My impression based on general comments on this board about AMPs is that the average SP there are significantly older than there claimed age, not younger, so I don't think that is an issue. I doubt that many of them needed much luring, they are in it for the money.

Perhaps the question should be how many of the girls got their start in the industry under aged, whether here or abroad. Perhaps not that many but they are out there.

Exactly. Since guys willing to pay for sex is what drives every aspect of the sex industry including underage and trafficking.
Anyone posting in this thread claiming to be of higher moral fiber than this pimp should climb down from their high horse.
In the big picture we, me included, are little better than what this pimp is accused of.

Hmmm... I think there is a range of more ethical and less ethical behaviour in any profession, and you can't put everyone into the same category.
Think of some of the abuse that happens by cops (shooting children as they chase a car, such as recently in the US), but many of them go out of their way to be outstanding and fair (if not compassionate) in their dealings with people, particularly those in need.

Most that actively contribute on this board are careful to avoid any situations where trafficking is involved and abhor it. Where there is true consent and choice without exploitation between adults, the problem are current laws and possibly the moral standpoint of many in society. Although some may be 'cheating' on SO's, that is certainly not the case across the board.
Seems to me that there is quite a difference between a pimp exploiting and beating underage girls, and lonely men compensating a lady who is freely (and eagerly) consenting to provide some intimate companionship that is a genuinely positive experience for both concerned.

Once again Gandalf ,you have stated how I feel, and put it in a far more classy, and intelligent way than I would.
If I may say so...It is my belief, that a very large percentage of guys here, upon making an appointment, and finding an underage, or abused girl of any age, and receptive to help, would step up.
I'd like to think that they would do everything they could, without endangering themselves or family...To help her out of whatever horror story ,she's found herself in.
I know I have....And painting most people with the same creepy brush....I personally find offensive. Anyone hanging around a High School and luring teenagers, should be introduced to a short rope ,tied to a tall tree....But that is my opinion only.
..And FYI....I own only one high horse...And he tends to throw me into the dirt, every now and then.
You are entitled to your opinion and beliefs....As am I.

We can only hope. 17 years.... Typical Canadian justice system.

23 years/9 women = 2.55 years per offense. Given some were underage. I would say the punishment is much to low. Wake up judges!!
Don't blame the judges. Sentences are determined by law not judges. Judges can only choose from within a (usually tight) range of sentences.

Not happy with the sentence? Write to your MP.

If I've read correctly, I believe the judge actually gave him a longer sentence than the Crown Counsels even asked for. Although, in one of the news reports, I believe I heard that he'll be eligible for day prole in as little as 5 years and full parole within a year or two after that (again, that's if I heard correctly).

Eligible for parole is not the same as getting parole.
