Movie Downloading Question

I recently was bitch-slapped by Shaw because Sony Pictures complained someone downloaded a movie traced to my IP.

Usually I use a private internet access setting, but I didn't bother this one time and booya. The fuckers complained because an old movie I'd never pay to go see in a theatre, or even bother with on TV was downloaded.

My question is - if I shiield my IP when downloading, is it safe to remove the scrambled protocol once it's on my hard drive, or can they still trace it? What if it's still seeding?

Thanks in advance.

You have to shield your IP both while downloading and while seeding.

One you have the movie stashed in your hard drive, you are fine as long as you aren't seeding. You won't have to do anything else to avoid trouble.

I hear you, it's tragically comical. Getting caught for downloading a stupid movie.
I got caught for downloading "The Dictator"!!!

You can install a privacy van app and connect through it. What'll happen is that it'll slow things down significantly but your true IP address won't be known to the copyright owners.

As a general precaution just stop sharing (seeding) once download is complete. It's selfish I know. Remember to post reviews here to make up for it :)

Proxies only kind of work, it may shield your IP bit your ISP still sees you using tons of upload bandwidth which is an obvious sign of torrenting. (Seeding). There is no sure fire way to avoid things like my advice is only seed things you really care about and don't be scared to leech. Especially if it's a crap movie. Try downloading your torrents on a lap top from now on inside of your desk top PC. See if any warnings come then. Try changing your router settings even. Do anything to distract your ISP. Once they see you using more than ~60% of your bandwidth limit they know what's up.

There are sites where you can watch them rather than d/l.

Unless you are using Windows 10 from what I've read in another thread.

Thanks for the info.

Most free streaming sites are crap now, or they want you to sign up. Most are camera copies from theatrs in Russia or China. If anyone knows of something better, please let us know.

I don't download many movies (another irony getting caught) and I don't game, so my bandwidth should never be very high.

I've now had to block seeding, unfortunately.

I pay for a shielding service, but it does slow things down.

but this is just a "we are required to notify you that there was a complaint" letter, right? ignore and business as usual. currently, canadian telecoms are under no obligation to punish subscribers or share their personal data.

Get someone else to do it for you. Lots of guys at work do it and will usually give me a movie if I give them a blank to put it on.

IP shields are the easiest and most secure way to protect yourself while downloading. ( look for ones that do not keep logs )

Good ones are not free, but 50$/year ( more or less ) is not much for that ... I would think

Have a look at www.torrentfreak.com they always list/rank various IP Shielding programs.
