I've been contemplating getting a UAV for aerial photography around Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island and Okanagan. Mainly kayaks, hikes, sailing, autocross and cycling. No perv stuff looking in Windows lol.

I've researched it a fair bit and was wondering if anyone owned one as a hobby

bBB. I have one. I love it. You can't really use them in hi density neighbourhoods. But get a gopro or another hd camera attached. The views are awesome. You can buy pre-fabricated ones at hobby stores. Or you can do some research on line and have some one make you one. Both are close to 500$ at base price. You can spend up to $1500 and get one that has a screen that shows you aerial view as you fly. Very cool. They last around 15 minutes off 1 battery. I recommend two so you can change it quickly and get back up there.

Those are sent to me by txt and email already ;)

But if you want me to program it to hover nearby your place, I could make it happen lol

My intention was to use it near water for the kayaking, near a place I have in the Okanagan and a few rural areas on Vancouver Island. There's not too many places around the city I would feel comfortable flying it.

Besides I note that a few people have reported them being used around town which would infringe on people's privacy.

Yeah the recent DJI Phantom 2 paired with gopro 3+ shoots some really impressive footage (see first minute of video), worthy of Hollywood:

Thanks for the vids wetnose. I've actually tried the DJI and like it a lot. Especially the return to home capability. Only thing about it is the gimble and GoPro which requires more $ and is not IP67 rated but is more of a splash proof set up.

The Lily has been on my FB sidebar for a while now since I've been looking at UAV's. I like the concept of the Lily following me with their wearable disk. It's also IP67 rated for those inevitable splashes in the ocean. They won't be delivered until 2016 and their fine print doesn't mention a refund if they don't produce it.

Still researching this one.

Lawner14 which one did you choose and what were the features you wanted in a UAV?
