Thank you Heidi, four you're grammer thread.

I pride myself with good spelinng, grammer and punctureation, and your definately right to ad this thread to the lounge.

Its apparent that the SPs are divulging less and fewer details about there pricing, and weather there menus offer more then in the past.

Oh well, its time to go pooning again, as soon as I find a lady in my catagory, and I hope the wether holds.

Dangit! I knew I should have stuck to trending lounge topics such as sports, the latest ebola scare, red wine recommendations, the new BC license plates, Charles Manson's recent engagement, 'movember' or 'pussy farts' ;)
As for these ladies who may have modified their ads to be appear subtler or more 'vague' to the unwashed masses, I speculate that there may be a specific objective?
Seeing as the new bill does not criminalize the act of 'selling', but 'purchasing' - perhaps such a lady is taking in to account the potential risk for her prospective new clients and adapting her new ads in accordance with the new laws - so as to even marginally reduce the risk to any gentleman who might respond to such an ambiguous ad?
Just a shot in the dark here, but I presume that if any gentleman were to contact such a lady with specific inquiries regarding her services, she would be more than happy to oblige.
I assume, anyway...

Bahaha, no shit

The choice of "their" or "there" is a kicker for me.

Vitargo, not picking on you but here is a common example ;)
-lol "there" and "their" and "ad" and "add" are two examples I watch out for when I write things myself, looks like that got away on me. I'll just blame it on auto correct.
-auto correct pet peeve is when I'm on perb and I type ers, but it auto corrects it to era
-Also I have an iPhone which has predictive texting and when I text a friend not an sp it will predict BnG(blow n go) instead of whatever "B" word I'm writing

Still drunkposting,

Heidi Honey, paragraphs are really important! Don't forget to put a FULL BLANK LINE between each of your paragraphs.

I don't know how many valuable reviews have been rendered practicaly unreadable by lack of paragraphs, but, yeah, many.

Hahaha!
I echo your sentiments on the good ol' iPhone auto-correct function ;)

OMG, Heidi, you took me serious.

Quick explanation. --- I read the OP and all the attached post that outlines words that were often mispelled. I wrote all of them down and then tried to use them all in a couple of sentences that were all ficticious and non factual, ...just being a smart ass. -------

I highlighted all the words I screwed with.

Drunkposting. May have to apologize for this in the morning. Just came back from a colleague's party (taxi) but can't let this one go.

Schmillions of people say "I" when they mean "me", and verse vica.

Example:

Tons of people say this but its absolutely wrong.
"Hey Melissa, do you want to go to Home Depot with me and Rhonda?"

And this sounds right to some but it is also WRONG!
"Hey Melissa, do you want to go to Home Depot with Rhonda and I?"

This is grandma-atically I mean gramatically correct.
"Hey Melissa, do you want to go to Home Depot with Rhonda and me?"

Here's the test and how you can always get it right: just try each proper noun or pronoun by itself.
"Hey Melissa, do you want to go to Home Depot with I?" You wouldn't say that unless you were an idiot, so don't say it in conjunction with another noun or pronoun.

Sheeesh.

FB
Whose Melissa and why are you and Rhonda so anxious to go to Home Depot?
And why can't Rhonda ask her?
Why do you need to do all the work?
What's her problem anyway?
Fuck you Rhonda! Get to Home Depot yourself!
C'mon Melissa, let's go grab a beer and a shower.

(I also have a problem with context and continuity.)

What bothers me is mostly just people that don't know the meaning of the words they use (and assume it means something else). The most common one that I see on this board is the use of the word 'barter' when they mean 'bargain', 'negotiate' or 'haggle'. Bartering is the exchange by one person of goods or services for the goods or services of another person. No money changes hands. Bargaining is what two people do when they wish to deal but differ on what the terms or prices should be for the goods or services in question.
Poor grammar is like nails on a chalkboard. The use of that instead of who makes the subject seem less of a person. That is a thing you are talking about. A person is not a thing.

What's this post getting at?

[Insert smugness here]
It took me a while to figure out, but I think I've got it:

This is what he meant:
Poor grammar is like nails on a chalkboard. The use of "that" instead of "who" makes the subject seem less of a person. "That" is a thing you are talking about. A person is not a thing.

If poor grammar is like nails on a chalkboard, lack of clarity is like pulling your hair out.

Love this thread. Precision in language is so important I think.

The ones that drive me crazy are:

There instead of their (see it ALL the time)
Your instead of you're

Generally plurals and possessives being mixed up. I saw a sign on a store window recently that said Dog's Not Permitted which I suppose technically makes sense but I know what they really meant was Dogs Not Permitted (as in plural of Dog not Dog Is Not Permitted)

The plural/possessive mixup one sees all the time.

Argh.

Spelling is my thing as well.

Such a nerd :) I won a spelling bee in Grade Three because I could spell Czechoslovakia Yay me :)

I could care less about anyones spelling or grammar. I dislike the blocks of text that lack paragraphs.
This one drives me nuts.

If you could care less, it means you care a little.

If you meant I don't care at all, then I couldn't care less is the correct form.

I was thinking it. You said it ;)
Though it is a widely used and accepted term..
And that is why it drives me nuts (an incorrect usage becoming generally acceptable)...

Also the rise in using the double negative such as you are not wrong. Just say you are right for god's sake.

The frequent use of "you know" and "it's like" in just about every other sentences in spoken English is another peeve of mine. It makes the speaker sound like a teenager who has a very limited vocabulary (no offense to teenagers with a very limited vocabulary).

Just a few days ago, a very reputable SP was kind enough to point out when I misspelled discreet as discrete. (I appreciate it too.) Although correct way would be to pm.

Ironically, next day, she was trying to correct someone when he/she spelled definitely as defiantely. She herself spelled it as definately!! Well, I didn't miss the chance to point her mistake out and.... ... poof .. her post disappeared. I guess we don't take criticism very well eh?

So yea. we all are somewhat guilty of making spelling mistakes ourselves (and pointing out others').

I saw that exchange. If you're going to be a grammar and/or spelling police then you should subject your own words to the same scrutiny. If you can dish out a few hits, you better be able to take a few hits yourself too. Otherwise, you're nothing but a hypocrite. And by you, I meant you know who...
