I don't understand this shit at all. If this thread has been done ad nauseum then it shouldn't garner any interest, and should theoretically die a quick painless death and those not interested would simply not respond. Instead, we are 8 pages into a juvenile seniority rant over search engine functionality. If you're not interested because the topic has been discussed that many times, don't respond! The problem if it were a problem would rectify itself far quicker!
This post deserves a prize! Extremely well said.

BadgerJohn, it is clear you do not see value in new posts by people who've experienced situations that resemble those you have read before. It is clear some others here do. Since there is nonetheless an audience for the discussion (its lack of interest for you, personally, not withstanding), it seems like such posts should be permissible so long as the moderators have no objections. I don't see why it's any more complicated than that? You keep saying how easy the search feature is to use but offer no explanation why ignoring threads that don't interest you is so hard?
:clap2: Another post deserving a prize! This has been one of the most annoying aspects of an otherwise enjoyable engagement with PERB.

C'mon kids, cool-it!

In future, why not be gracious to the OP and direct him to read an early thread/post on the subject.
I am only commenting on this thread because I find it funny that even a mod runs into glitches on this forum... in this case a double post. lol

Old-time posters should remember that there are always new members everyday. The OP just joined in July. Not everyone stays logged on Perb everyday reading every single thread.
I've been known to pop-off on occasion regarding newbies and their idiotic posts, but seriously, this does not even remotely qualify as one of those occasions.
BB you are so right- there are SOME guys on here with thousands of posts in their histories that seem to live 24 hours a day on this forum- reading every last thread and commenting without discretion, with grand and worldly responses, theses, videos etc. Real big King Shits on their Turd Islands. They know who they are, and should just shut the fuck up once in awhile. Take8 asked a legit question- so what if it's been rotisseried to a charred, black nub by SOME in the past? As noted here by most, searching certain topics is not the easiest thing in the world- isolating key words still leaves a lot of room for volumes of history. I'm sure these same life-less A-holes will find time to dissect and search my own history for any contradictory statements I've made, and throw me on the grill as well. Have at it boys- I'm sure you all have nothing better to do anyway!:)

On "Why didn't he search for "discretion": As was said by a few posts back, perhaps that specific term might not have come to mind. In my experience, some people are better at composing valid search strings than others.

On "Why didn't he search at all": Who cares? Again, if you think the topic is beat to death, then don't read and don't contribute - let others go ahead and speak on the topic.

Regarding general attitude of posters: My personal preference is always initially use the polite approach. Let the other person attack first. even then, attempt to calm the waters. Only then - attack.

But I think most of all. Has anyone noticed that there HAS ACTUALLY BEEN some valid responses to the original post? People adding comment to this DISCUSSION FORUM? Part of why I come here is not just to read reviews, or search out SPs, but to hear what others may have to say. The few posts in this thread that respond to the original intent ARE interesting. Delete all the bullshit back and forth, and it becomes an interesting thread ( Yes -Yes - on a subject that has been covered before - but these are still new comments.)

and finally - When I first saw this thread, I didn't bother to look - I've read these threads before and I personally already know how to deal with discretion. So - I didn't open the thread. But now several days later I see the thread is still on top, and is now many pages. I entered only to see why so many posts on a topic I thought was covered. in other words: I chose initially to ignore what I assumed would be a tired subject - a choice we can all make.

Why do you guys do it? Just let this thread die a slow natural death. It wasn't worth (or needed) 9 replies, let alone 9 pages. There are 8 pages of stupid videos, gifs and pics already and there will probably more coming.

Well, it was dying for about 6 hours,... until you, Edward Lei, revived it again.

You could say the same about me (Reviving it), but I didn't complain about the length of the thread

I love when SPs chime in to the threads, but feel the need to attach photos, contact info etc. Isn't there another section for adverts? I don't ever see the Gods perched on Mount We-Know-Best, high above the Kings of Turd Island, bringing the hammer down on these demi-goddesses on this minor indiscretion, yet heaven forbid a legit question is asked by the common folk without due diligence first having taken place before the lightning bolts are rained down. I'm sure if I had the time I could research this topic first to be sure it hasn't already been addressed in a previous thread, but instead I choose to just launch it out there. Of course I say all this with tongue firmly planted in cheek!:) Let's all try to keep it as relevant as we can, Brothers.

Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
I just noticed this thread and have not read any of the responses but I just had to comment.

This is one of the dumbest things that keeps getting raised on this and other boards.

The rule of thumb is, if you are a pooner and you even need to think about or don't know the correct protocol in such situations you need to stop seeing SP's immediately!
It's for your own good because you are obviously too dumb, weird, immature, or just plain out of touch with reality to participate in this hobby and likely many aspects of the grown up world.

When you're a paid advertiser, you have the privilege of a signature with your contact info and a picture in it! That's why it's at the bottom of the post. That's why we pay to advertise here. When a lady is not Red, no signature privileges equals no contact information. So no, there isn't a way to 'bring the hammer down', because it's what keeps the bandwidth paid for!

Thanks for clearing that up, Ms. Erica. I appreciate the candid response without the all to common (not by you) venom attached. You seem to have gotten my sense of humour on this post.:)

Awwww, so we are back to one big happy family now?

See? All we have to do is to discuss, not spew venom. We disagree, oh do we ever! That, in my opinion is no reason to take our swords out and ....... ok , fine, no more mention of verbally violent venom.

Let us all stretch our arms and hug as many people as we can. (Can I get between Ms Erica and Ms Sarah?)

If you're referring to the signatures on the bottom of each advertiser's posts, you can choose to turn off sig's and images in the general settings of your account. I have everything turned off so all I see is what I want to read.
Thanks to you as well Ms. Sarah- I appreciate your input. There's always more still to learn on here it seems, and thoughtful responses go a long ways. I'm not an innocent when it comes to firing away blindly, and intelligent, candid advice helps put things back in perspective. On a side note, thanks also for the PM regarding the "As" in Abby. I haven't seen anything else posted yet, but hopefully it is not the location I'm familiar with.

Thanks for clearing that up, Ms. Erica. I appreciate the candid response...
I have said it before, I will say it again! :D I am a grown up, not a fifth grade mean girl. I spent 20+ years as an elementary school teacher exorcising the demons of the mean girls that tormented me. I don't know you from a hole in the ground, as far as I am aware, so when I read your posts (or ANYONE's posts that I don't know) I can only guess at your mood when you wrote it, so I 'hear' it in my head in a neutral voice so that I don't put my own assumptions of your POV into it! It seems that, especially lately, people are forgetting that. Maybe it's because they are new to Internet forums and so they have no idea of the etiquette, so they look for insult and they provoke flamewars and they start trollish behaviour without actually realisng that they are doing so. They think they're contributing to the community, but unless you take the time to learn the culture of a community when you join it, your behaviour has an effect upon the climate of that community. When behaviour that is normally seen as negative becomes 'the norm', then culture has changed. Frankly, lately the culture around here has had more in common with some elementary schools I've worked in...squabbles and camps, not community. I don't DO camps. I participate here so that people can get a sense of who I am before they decide whether they want to come and see me. Likewise, I can read posts and check posting/reviewing history and decide if that is a client I wish to see. I am incredibly thankful to this community and to the members who have been here for the long haul making it what it is. I would hate to see those members leave because new members are moving in and they've decided they want to tag the 'hood.

In 8 weeks*, I'll be having the last birthday I'm ever going to publicly acknowledge(!) My life started over at 45. The second half of my life is going to be amazing, but it is too short to spend being negative. It's too fucking short to take everything so seriously all the time. People need to lighten up, chill out, relax, and choose to be happy. When I post, assume I do so with a smile on my face every time, because if I'm not always amused by PERB, I am still always bemused by it. That's as good a reason as any to smile.

Finally; quotes from three women I admire...

"The secret to a long life is to keep a song in your heart, a smile on your face, and a good dirty joke at the ready"

"Can't we all just hump and get along?"

"Abstinence makes the Church grow fondlers!"
