Our goverment is planning to introduce "nordic model" concerning prostitution:

Our goverment is planning to introduce "nordic model" concerning prostitution: Legal to sell but illegal to buy: It criminalizes situations where money, drugs, gifts, or other forms of compensation are exchanged for sexual services.

Soon it may be illegal to go to massage parlor, meet an escort and even your website may be forced to close...

I did my part!

1. Do you think that purchasing sexual services from an adult should be a criminal offence? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

Comment: Purchasing a service that is willingly offered cannot be any kind of offence. The key word here is "willingly". Maybe a social structure could be created to make sure that the person offering the sexual service is doing so in complete knowledge of the risks taken, and the alternatives that exist to obtain an income. Criminalizing the purchase of sexual services does nothing positive for the person offering the service: If the person is, as in most cases, conscious about what they're doing, this criminalization limits her/his freedom; if the person is unwilling exploited, this just creates a strain in her/his relationship with the pimp and endangers her/him to further abuse, including putting the person in more risky situations to be able to “sell” her services.

2. Do you think that selling sexual services by an adult should be a criminal offence? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

Comment: Selling a service to adults who know the risks should be a matter decided by the client and not by the state; especially if this purchase doesn’t affect third parties in a greater way than, say, just finding sex for free in bars or using websites that offer arrangements for sexual encounters.

3. If you support allowing the sale or purchase of sexual services, what limitations should there be, if any, on where or how this can be conducted? Please explain.

Comment: I support this as a basic freedom. Limitations should be similar to the sale of alcohol. Only practiced by consenting adults. It would be great if some sort of health screening could be put in place, for both Service Providers and Clients.

4. Do you think that it should be a criminal offence for a person to benefit economically from the prostitution of an adult? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

Comment: The law should be explicit on who can benefit from prostitution, and that is the prostitute only. If the prostitute wants to hire a third party agency for administrative purposes, body guarding or driving that should be allowed and regulated.

This is what I submitted .....

1. Do you think that purchasing sexual services from an adult should be a criminal offence? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

Comment: No, should not be a criminal offense if this is an act between two willing adults.

2. Do you think that selling sexual services by an adult should be a criminal offence? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

Comment: No, an adult should be able to do what he or she wants as long as it does not infringe on other people's rights.

3. If you support allowing the sale or purchase of sexual services, what limitations should there be, if any, on where or how this can be conducted? Please explain.

Comment: There should be limits on sale or purchase of sexual services -- on streets, in cars or limos or publicly visible places, near schools, churches, etc., where there is a reasonable expectation that these activities may adversely affect a child or will be offensive to a religious person. Limitations should be reasonable; i.e., the provider should be able to sell services as long as it does not cause harm to others.

4. Do you think that it should be a criminal offence for a person to benefit economically from the prostitution of an adult? Should there be any exceptions? Please explain.

Comment: Yes, I think the only person who benefits should be the service provider.

5. Are there any other comments you wish to offer to inform the Government's response to the Bedford decision?

Comment: I am confused about this issue because in many ways, I prefer that the government stay away from private, personal matters but still want reasonable, clear laws to protect interests of ALL Canadians. I fear greatly that a puritanical approach that criminalizes sexual acts will result in targeted persecution of political enemies, business competitors, and so on.

6. Are you are writing on behalf of an organization? If so, please identify the organization and your title or role:

Comment: No and I would like to keep my identity private.

I would agree with all your answers other than number 4. I don't think that it is any difference to run a business consisting of sellers of sexual services than any other business. People own medical clinics, hair salons, etc. and have people provide their labour for financial gain, and I believe that this scenario is no different. Some people may be very good at the service end of the business, but not have skills that are business related (ie. paying taxes, utilities, rent, etc.). So having someone else business minded that handles that portion of the enterprise may (or may not in some cases) be advantageous to all parties.

The two biggest things in my opinion are 1-no minors, no exceptions. 2-no street prostitution, no exceptions.

Just my two cents.
