And maybe have a voluntary/optional surcharge for pooners as well, so they can also contribute directly.
That's a nice thought, if the gentleman isn't comfortable going into the bank and depositing it personally. If your lady has a great reputation in the community, then leaving your donation with her shouldn't be a problem...she will make sure it gets into the bank account for Susi...however, anyone can make a small deposit into the account of another. I used to deposit my monthly rent, in cash, into my landlady's bank account. No bank teller ever questioned me...

In Your Wildest Dreams!
But evidence helps... Will there be sufficient moral outrage and righteous indignation at the end of the day.
And you and I, and everyone else on this board as ridiculoulsy overeducated as you and me, knows that you can get the evidence of any hypothesis for either qualitative or quantitative data as long as you ask the questions correctly that you are trying to answer! Then you make sure your questionnaire is scored on a narrowly defined 5 point scale...

Sorry. Geek moment.

:) Of course! But it still carries more legitimacy than pure opinion and bombast, at least, among a certain portion of the population. For a start, addressing the suggestion that the majority of women are coerced or otherwise forced into the profession (no real choice on their part), and that most start in their early teens. This is true for a portion, but that portion is probably a lot smaller than is often presented in the media.

I think that is a great idea. I was thinking something similiar I would totally be willing to donate one session per month to the cause. If Ten of us can do that a month it would be a lot of money!! And we already have 3, cherise, alex and I.!!
maybe nik on ers and fred zed could offer some incentive package for the ladies to be more willing to join together in this ...either a n icon to go along with the verified one or a special ad placement?
vanessa between you and susi....i am sure nik would be willing to cooperate !

in all my work we ALWAYS stand up for buyers. we have been pushing the compassionate care issue at every opportunity. there's a great film from the scarlette alliance on the issue. recently a sex worker came from australia and presented the film and spoke on a panel. i lecture out a ubc, sfu. fraser valley university and always try to debunk the myths about who buyers are.

the john's voice research and the sex, safety and security project also help our cause.

i hate to admit it but people here are right. we need money.

i cannot afford to continue doing this work for free. erslist pays me an honorarium each month to support the work i do but between support for workers in distress and advocacy/ lobbying i am being paid about $3 an hour. i applied for one of the 2 newly created sex industry liaison positions at the city but did not get the job. i felt like that could give me the foundation i needed to be able to continue....

i am not sure how we can find the funds or how we could even accept donations and be accountable for the money. i guess we could form a non profit....call it something really plain like ...flowers of hope.....then people could donate that way....

i am really passionate about these issues and am positioned to be able to lobby against the nordic model but also need to pay my bills. i spend so much time at this work i somethimes can't afford my rent....

i bought a little butchershop which is starting to make things better but i still am coming up short all the time...i want to continue but i do need help...

open to suggestions here.....
also,susi....it is my off season for my day job, so unless i am kept busy with snow removal (yeah right), i have a lot of free time on my hands if you need any help with anything. unfortunately i no longer drive ,but if there is anything you require that can be done from home, just ask!

So, ladies and gents...this topic kinda got lost in the shuffle, time for a re-visit.

Anyone have any concrete ideas how we can contribute to Susi's work (I know that she does so much for this community without compensation)...

Thanks for bringing this up again Alex. I wish we could get a solid group of ladies that would contribute every month. Perhaps we need to talk to Susie about setting up a discreet email address so we could do e-transfers straight to her account.

Is anyone else going with Cherise and Alex's idea to do a monthly donation to Susie?

All I'd need is a discreet way to deposit the funds...I'm not too comfortable with the idea of an e-mail transfer because, as I understand it, this is not a private method. There are a number of ladies who require lots of discretion for their identity. Ideas, folks?

Ok, just throwing this out there, you could always western union or mail her a money order.
Maybe susie should write a blog for Nik and see if he will put it up!

...thinking the same thing. Let's get the creative perbite juices flowing:

1. Pub night for the cause! Cash donations delivered mysteriously. Punt buys the first round.
2. We could buy meat. (No, not a business metaphor). Many of us might like to buy our delicious meat products from a butchershop if we knew it supported a good hearted socially active owner. Just need to know where it is... Maybe put a "Friends of Susi Tip Jar" on top of the counter for some easy drop-off donations
3. Silent auction? Punt's silk underwear would sell for a fortune (Pundys). No ebay re-sells please
4. We set-up a kissing booth at a mall or skytrain entrance. The lovely ladies of perb each take a turn. The line-ups will be long--people will wait a long time in the"Susi-Que" to donate
5. Make a PERB walk of fame. For $20, you can etch your perb handle in freshly poured cement. Photo-shoot optional. (Naw, too hard to find a willing location). Sorry, I was trying for a real concrete solution

Well, at least the first two have some potential. Let's hear some better ideas...

I almost got banned for suggesting drinks and/or lunch with other Perb members (I even said I'd pay for it and I wasn't joking) so I think number 1 is definitely out of the question.

Maybe the more literary-minded ladies could write of their exploits and adventures as e-books and sell them on Amazon with proceeds going to whatever organization is setup to handle this. Just suggested to Tant that he publish an ebook regarding his Philippine adventures, but maybe a series of tales on adventures in the industry here in Vancouver would sell well too, and ebooks aren't that difficult to put together (erotic fiction is one of the big sellers for the Kindle).

So far, #2 is my favourite!

How many pages is your average ebook?
How much does it go for?

There is a wide range and you might want to start by taking a look through the erotica section on the Amazon Kindle site. There is some stuff for free, but the page count on many of those are quite short (13-25 pages, sometimes more). The free books are basically to create a demand for either that book or the work by that author. It is quite common practice for authors to do an initial distribution of ebooks on Amazon for free to get their download count up (the more popular the book, the higher it appears on lists when searching).

Prices vary, but typically for a few dollars. If you sell something on Amazon for under $10, the author gets a 70% of the sale price, which is a game changer in many ways as typically the author's commission is much lower. Over $10 and you receive a 30% commission. Optimal pricing is still an area under exploration in ebooks. Pricing is all over the place as different companies try different approaches. It does in part depend on genre as I've seen teen ebooks selling for higher prices than the paperback version, but academic books selling for 25% of the paperback version.

If you price an ebook for $4 or $5 dollars (or lower), it is basically seen as a low-risk purchase at that level. ebooks are great as well, as people can read them without it being obvious to others what they are reading. I understand that women are a significant portion of the erotica market... though maybe 'True Tales of a Vancouver Courtesan' would reach a wider male audience (promote it on here, maybe). Look at the popularity of the 'Fifty Shades Trilogy'.

Cover image is important, even for ebooks, as that is a key aspect of drawing a potential audience in. And make sure it is carefully proofread, as typos and grammatical errors will quickly turn off your potential audience. Cost of editing varies. My wife edits student papers for about $30 an hour, but that price can be negotiated down for longer projects in the quieter periods.

The starting point is probably doing some research on Amazon to see what there is, what is getting the better rankings and what seems to be hot.

Also, a piece of writing software you might want to consider if you are seriously looking at this is Scrivener. Apparently it provides a much more natural approach to writing than the linear format that Word provides. I am about to test a trial version (they give you a 30-days of use trial for free) to see if it is as good as some of the reviews for it. Not too expensive either at $45 for the Mac version and lower for Windows (originally for Mac, and that version has more features).

Feel free to PM me for more thoughts or feedback.

BTW, the link that Playful Alex gave is useful, but really targeted at a different kind of book and segment of the market (unless you are looking at a series of guidebooks on how to be a courtesan... now, there is an idea... 'Erotic secrets of a courtesan'... could be a hot seller among women outside the profession.
