More than a few times, I have seen comments like this...

"why are you posting in my thread?"

or

"stay away from my thread if you can't agree with me..."

I may not have been around here long enough to fully know the rules of forum life but, when you start a thread, do you own the thread? Is the thread really 'yours'? Do you have a say as to who contributes to it, or what they add? Am I missing something? Did I not get the memo?

When I start a thread, I am looking for the community to engage in a topic I find interesting. I enjoy hearing the various opinions of the members here. I avoid threads I find disturbing, I typically avoid confrontation (unless provoked), and I am open to whatever way the thread evolves, as they tend to do.

Your thoughts, please...

Nobody..........once you toss it out there it's fair game for anybody to play with. You might not always like the toys they bring, but.................you started it, live with it. Always remember, they too will start a thread, then you can play.

Hey, life on-line means anyone (even the idiots and trolls) can participate.

Sometimes things take a 180 and veer off, but it is what it is.

Nobody owns a thread like it's their private library.

When I start a thread it is to get a discussion going and sometimes things go off the rails and other times some useful information is found within the thread. Sure you are gonna get idiots and Trolls but that is no different from any forum. I do not consider any of my threads to be my own personal property but a starting point of a discussion; where it ends is anybody's guess.

There are/were members who I never see eye to eye with and I usually don't go into "their" threads because of their reactions to some of my posts. Inflammatory comments like "get out of my thread Troll" or "you are such an ignorant POS etc have no place in any civil discussion. IMHO they are the ones who are Trolling Perb because they want to get a negative reaction from a poster.

Then again some days I do feel like poking them in the eye and say what I think.

Hi Alex,

My thoughts are the same as yours.
When I saw the other thread yesterday it seemed like a Newb-White-Knight post (so of course I couldn’t resist) but then it got nasty.
I always miss the good shit unless the Bull’s-eye is on me, but I still can’t see much when the target is on my back.
(snipperoo)

Oh yeah, back to your question (sorry for the hijack BTW), Fred Zed owns every frikken thread here and the Mods have more say then any members.
That’s who owns a thread.

Funny. When I asked a few months ago for a regular visitor to post a review for me here to help me build my clientele, he expressed lots of concern about the idea, since 'the guys get pretty nasty on that site sometimes'. Fortunately, I haven't seen much of it expressed towards me, but I did see his point soon after I joined. I've read some really horrifying things said in a totally offhand manner about other posters, about other women, etc. While posting my ad this morning, in fact, I browsed one of my reviews and found a whole lot of deleted comments there. Now, I don't know if these were deleted by the original posters, by the mods, or what. I don't know what they said, and I am glad. I am not ashamed of what I do...because as I see it, what I do is to help bring positive energy and positive experiences into the lives of the men that choose to see me. Of course I am not everyone's cup of tea, nor is Alex, or Peyton, or even the luscious Cami Parker (ok, maybe SHE is everyone's cup of tea!!) but rather than get nasty, why not just say that..especially if you have not seen or met the woman in question.

As for the original question posed by Playful Alex, I agree with L-i-J's comment. The owner(s) of the board own the thread. All we own are our thoughts, our words, and our actions. I choose to make mine positive.

Have a Blessed day, all!

Much affection,
Ms Erica

I have noticed it often does go off on a tangent sometimes. The reason of the original post strays and it eventually doesn't even resemble the original topic.

i think , at least with the thread you are referring to, is that your comment shifted things away from the purpose of the OP, which was self promotion . she needed to remain the focus to get her name out there IMO

Poking or feeding trolls is a bad habit! Whenever I feel the urge to do so in righteous indignation, I do what I do when I feel the urge to do housework...I step away from what I am doing and lie down until the feeling goes away!

If they have tossed the first negative post sometimes a well deserved retort is required to shed light upon their Trollish behaviour IMHO ;)

Well if you check .. you will find that the person that starts the thread can control it to some exstent.. by either deleting it.. or asking that it be deleted.

There are several ladies in red who will lock threads they start, if it doesn't go their way.

It's the internet version of slamming the Monopoly board closed during a game when you're losing.

I respectfully disagree. I think that sometimes it is in the best interest of those involved to moderate your own thread. Sometimes things get out of hand. There are a lot of hating trollers on this board. They are easy to identify. They are the first to respond to your threads and usually in a negative fashion taking a complete opposite stance just to be argumentative. I can think of a few people who do that.

I'll agree that occasionally it is the right thing to do, but just like there's a lot of hating trolls on the board who comment, there's also a bunch that start threads to illicit responses from people. Perhaps I'm just used to other non-work related boards, I do a lot of conversing on hockey boards and let me tell you, the general IQ is about 5.

Is that why your tadpole is gone, too much wining? ;)
Hardly, I'm just a very lackadaisical Tweeter.
